Looks like this is the first of the multiple patent infringement claims against Vizio that has led to specific action by the International Trade Commission. Basically, the federal agency has ordered Vizio to either stop importing TVs to the U.S. or pay a bond on every TV that they import into the U.S. while the case moves through the courts. Vizio already issued a press release indicating that they have chosen to continue importing TVs to the U.S. Obviously, if this is upheld in court, Funai would basically have the power to shut Vizio down, since the company does not have much of a market presence outside of the U.S.

Personally, I think that Funai's patent claims are not exactly rock solid, given that the MPEG technology in question was originally developed by Thomson (former parent company of RCA) and Hughes (former parent company of Directv). Funai acquired those patents in 2007 and started enforcing them more stringently. Other companies either negotiated licensing terms or already had them, but Vizio chose not to pay the royalty and has challenged the patent in court. If the allegations against Vizio by Funai and other companies are upheld by the courts, then much of their pricing advantage has come from bypassing the licensing fees that other companies did pay.

JUST because I bought a Vizio (great pic for a great price) doesnt mean I HAVE SWORN
some kind of alligance to them.
As for Funai, give me a break, this is obviously a nusicence lawsuit and nothing else.
For plasma (and panasonic ) fanboy like wooch to doubt it just shows how weak it is.
AND shows the success of VIZIO, they wouldnt be attacking a bit playerr like this
Olevia, Proview, AOC, AND Envision are also named in this suit, whose claims have already been dismissed once before.
Somebody got their palm greased , had to for this frivolous crap to make it as far as it has.
Signifies nothing, and if "wooch" thinks it will stop import of Vizio sets, then hes' even more clueless than I think he is , which is a lot.
Of course he is talking about "multiple" patent claims, when theres only the one,
this panasonic shill is going to make it sound as bad as possible.
But its really just a tempest in a teapot.:1:

Oh really? Then why has the ITC already ruled in favor of Funai? A "nusicence" suit would presumably get kicked out of the blocks at every stage along the way. This is the first stage, and Vizio is already being forced to pay up just to stay in business. Keep in mind that Funai is the patent holder, and they're simply enforcing it more aggressively than Thomson and Hughes did.

What does plasma have to do with Vizio possibly stealing someone's technology without paying for it? Your plasma derangement syndrome is acting up again ... better take another one of them blue pills ... :out:

No, it simply means that Vizio's TVs are produced by the same companies that supply those labels.

Actually, you're the clueless one, given that this ITC ruling specifies that Vizio must stop importing TVs unless they begin paying the royalties into a bond fund that will be held until the courts rule on this. They've already indicated that they will pay into the bond fund, which my post already says.

Either you're lying (again) or your short-term memory has gotten even shorter. There are multiple suits against Vizio. Recall this exchange from last year?

Mitsubishi, Samsung, Sony, JVC, and Philips are all involved in separate legal actions against Vizio for patent infringement. All of them hold different patents in the MPEG patent pool. Funai's patent covers how program information and text data gets transmitted, while the other patents cover other aspects of the video compression and data streaming. The Funai claim is simply the first one that has gotten to the point of potentially impacting on Vizio's business model.

Nope, just reporting the truth. Not my fault that you take bad news about your precious Vizio so personally. :1:

Theres nothing "precious" about my Vizio, just a good piece of electronics.
Maybe you like to cuddle up to your panasonic, but that aint my thing,
I prefer women for that sort of thing.
All of these lawsuits say basically the same thing, mainly that if you outsource
something you have to pay royalties on the patents involved, which is rediculous.
It wont go to court, most lawsuits dont, Vizio will pay some blackmail-er- settlement,
not much if anything because it will be cheaper, and life will go on.
Things like this happen every day BTW, if youi dont want to get sued stay outta the business world, lawyers are part of the cost of doing business.:1:

OH BTW, google "panasonic lawsuit" and you will get TEN PAGES of lawsuits filed against panasonic, and THEN some.
Everything from a lawsuit concerning bluetooth(co defendant Nokia) .
A patent suit (co defendant lg) concerning patents they used that belong to some Tiwanese companies(patent lawsuits are the most common)
Heres another patent suit, a class action suit (latest in a long line) concerning
the quality, or rather lack of, of their TV sets, etc..etc.
You can present CRAP2 and try to make it appear as if VIZIO
is the only company geting sued these days, but only a ninny would beleive such nonsense.
In fact, you're success is usually judged by the number of people suing you.
Misrepresent all you want to shill, your regular job of lying for the govt shows
that thats your only skill.:1:

Big difference though is that NONE of these lawsuits have gotten to the point where Panasonic is prohibited from importing their products into the U.S. Vizio now has to pay into a bond fund just to keep the lights on.

Where do I say that Panasonic doesn't and hasn't gotten sued? Nice try, but this news concerns your dearly beloved Vizio, and it is potentially serious for them if these patent infringement claims go against them because that would entail both retroactive damages and upholding the prohibition on TV imports. All your personal attacks and attempts to change the subject do nothing to change that. :out:

THAT "BOND" that you keep making a big deal out of is nothing unusual, as a matter of fact its fairly commonplace.
And it is pertinent that SAMSUNG, PANASONIC, SHARP, LG, and practically
everybody else gets sued on a regular basis.
Panasonic probably has more than a few "bonds" in their past.
Basically you are making MOLEHILL INTO A MOUTAIN in order to slander
A company that is in competition with your company, panasonic, in order to hurt their sales and help theirs.
Wouldnt surprize me a bit of you work for panasonics propagand---marketing arm,
which has bogus "independent comsumer sites" (all praising panasonic of course)
and an army of shills such as yourself, professional liars who twist facts in order to help your company.
Doesnt matter, Vizio is a good buy compared to overpriced pannay stuff, and no propaganda on your part is gonna change that.:1:
