Sennheiser's new HD-800 has hit with a retail price of $1,399.00. How many do you want? I have to admit I'd really like to hear a pair. Sorry, I don't have a link on hand but they are on www.amusicdirect.com

I'd love to hear and own a pair (as long as I don't have to pay for it)... $1.4K for headphones is really steep...

True, but a pair of headphones taken care of last for years and years. I have a pair of AKG that are about 20 years old. The inside pad is worn out so much they aren't comfortable to wear any more. That's what got me my first pair of Senn. I might spring for something like this before I move into that retirement apartment and sell off my big speakers and gear :)

It's so far down the road I don't even know why I think of it. Besides I have to keep working to support the habit.

Not that your askin' but IMHO you only need power conditioning only if one or both of the following occurs;

1) Your SQ degrades when the AC/furnace or refrigerator (or any motor circuit) starts up.
Motors are notorious for generating noise. If these appliances aren't affecting SQ then
the lower level ambient noise shouldn't be a problem.

2) If the SQ changes through out the day say at 7:30 to 8;30 when factories are starting
up, people are signing onto computer at work etc, compared to 3:00 AM when the grid
should be fairly quiet. This is obviously dependent of location and proximity.

One caveat, if the noise is ever present then you would have no reference, in this case a PC may be beneficial.

I couldn't tell by listening that I needed a power conditioner but when adding one the improvement was noticeable. It's like the background gets darker and detail is easier to hear. Especially noticeable on my phono stage, and then C D player. It also helped my Linn digital amp. You want to be sure to use one that offers "no current limiting". I tried a power conditioner with my Krell amp and it had a negative effect. Seemed like it took some of the attack away. I think it was because it starved it for current on peak music demands, or with Krell maybe all the time. The thing to do is to try one from some place that allows audition or returns. It seems how effective power conditioning is depends. I had great luck with my PS Audio. It was pretty big improvement but some one else here tried one and the effect wasn't enough for them to keep it.

If I had a buddy like LDB close by I'd have them run me some dedicated lines.

I with ya Mr. P. Love to hear the new HD800's but my Senn dealer (Tweeter) went out of business. I'll start checking the local HiFi shops and see if anybody carries them.

Let me know when you get a good retirement plan together. I'm trying to get there myself. Just when you think you have it going in the right direction, some new toy comes along to try and throw the preverbial monkey wrench into the works.

Love my HD600's but boy those 800's look sweet.
