Yes folks, the one and only Acoustat, ARC SP9 MKIII man is back. I finally remembered my old log in name and password. It's so good to feel like myself again. Although Deadeye was fairly descriptive of my activities, I just didn't feel like me. I do now!!

Great to see your true self, JoeE SP9. Yes, I, for one of many no doubt, missed you while you were gone. :16:

Thanks Florian. Do you mind if I go through your trash. With all that stuff you just might throw away something like a KSA-50 or 100.

Hi Joe.
I remember you somewhat, from my earlier times here (2006). Good to have another guru here.
I've been doing a little spying on the SP9. Why would AR employ toroidal transformers in the past and use conventional transformers in their current line-up?

Although I'm not JoeE SP9, I also have one myself. These look like doughnut trannies to me:

REF 7 CDP (http://www.arcdb.ws/REFCD7/REFCD7.html)

REF 3 (http://www.arcdb.ws/REF3/REF3.html)

PH7 (http://www.arcdb.ws/PH7/PH7.html)

And lots of paper in oil caps. :)

I couldn't answer that. I haven't looked inside their new stuff. So, I have no knowledge of this. I do remember my old SP3-A had a conventional transformer. At the prices they charge the choice of transformers is not likely to be budget oriented.

The REFCD7's transfo looks like a hybrid, if we can call it that. So does the PH7.
The REF3 seems to have one of each, oppositely mounted:

This supposedly is the SP9 MKIII:
http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.arcdb.ws/SP9/ARC_SP9MKIII_bottom.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.arcdb.ws/SP9/SP9.html&usg=__6Ho6bcU04nujYsUb7XwN9D5-Rps=&h=600&w=800&sz=85&hl=en&start=2&um=1&tbnid=HJm7Vz5-oW053M:&tbnh=107&tbnw=143&prev=/images%3Fq%3DARC%2BSP9%2BMKIII%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den% 26rls%3Dcom.microsoft:en-gb:IE-SearchBox%26rlz%3D1I7ADBF

Looks toroidal to me. It's mounted sideways.
I'm guessing by doughnut you mean toroidal?

The CD7 does have a tiny laminated probably for the computer logic control as opposed to the signal circuitry. I don't see any laminated transformers on the REF3 although it also it has a separate power supply for the logic.

It looks just like mine. There is no computer circuitry on this unit.

Exactly. Note the shape vs. conventional units with stacked laminated plates.

Great seeing you back under JoeE SP9. I about flipped when I saw Deadeye's avator, and had to check your gear to make sure. It's was good seeing Deadeye, but JoeE SP9 had been missed greatly. I take the Blackbird's still keeping your feet tapping. Welcome back!

I was just looking around on the web. I had no idea my little PPA-1 was going for that much. I'm sorely tempted! $250 on one site!!! Holy Cow!!!!
I noticed that all the ones I saw had a black cover. I believe those are the PPA-1h versions. They have 39db of gain and 10 Ohms input impedance for very low output MC's. Mine has a Blue cover 27.5db of gain and 36 Ohms input impedance for ordinary low output MC's. The specs I just copied from the manual.

Hehe... well my trash is pretty heavy. Are you strong enough?

Flo, I would expect those old Krells to be heavy. I'll just bring a hand truck. What day is your trash picked up?

I don't want your BIG Krell's, you need them for your Grands. All a want for Christmas is 2 KSA-100's.:rolleyes5:
Would you be so kind as to place one neatly beside your trash receptacle on a Tuesday. Exact date to be determined at a later time. Do the same with the second unit on Thursday of the same week. No muss no fuss no messy discarded amps to entice your trash collectors.:nono:
I'm, quite certain I can move one of them with my hand truck. I'm much stronger than I look. If necessary I will bring Igor (pronounced eye-gore) to help with the manual labor. Please let me know when we can conclude this as I have to let my Concorde pilot file a flight plan.
Those pesky noise pollution laws can be a pain so I intend to steer clear of England both out and back as I don't want them confiscating my little jet. You are aware they confiscate TV's and audio equipment for playing them too loud. So please be careful they don't hear your rig until after this deal is completed. It might be difficult to pry those Krell's from the clutches of the Bobbie's and Scotland Yard!:ciappa:

Good Listening!:D

My girlfriend thinks I'm greedy and spoiled. She's right but it's all her fault. She allows and encourages all my whims and desires.
Sorry, no remote. I get my daily exercise getting up to change the volume.

I'm beginning to realize how long I've had some of this stuff. The MKIII's I built from kits. Same for the Hafler's. The SP9 I bought new.
