I just put an order in for the new 2009 Nissan Maxima. I was wondering if any one else has the new model with the 290HP engine?

It's replacing my 2001 Acura CL S-type.

I choose it over the Saturn Redline Sky, 2009 Acura TL, 350Z and the 2010 Camaro.

I had my sites on a Sky but after driving it with a heavy winter coat, I found it to be too cramped inside, but it is a blast to drive. I'll regret not buying it when the summer comes, but it would have been my year round car and not exactly a great car for the Minnesota winters.

The new TL is ugly and the interior is too cramped and busy.

The new Maxima is built to compete with the BMW 3 and 5 series. It drives and handles like a dream. Handling is crisp and much better than my CL. It does 0-60 in 5.9 seconds.

Nissan is going to put a 300+ HP engine in it later this year or next.

Thanks! I opted for the precision grey color. My favorite is black but here in Minnesota black always looks dirty. I got a good deal with $4500 off of the SV model with the cold weather package and bluetooth tech package.

Well have a great time with her and watch out for that black ice....*Y'know I was lookin' at yer other post (not to swerve off track here), and was rememberin' a time I thought about startin' up a site or a mag called the Auricauricle for those guys innerested in hifi gear and not wannin' to spend an arm and a leg.....Anyway (and back to the point, [ahem]) she looks like a screamin' demon, and with that steer up front looks like she'll give BMW a workout....

From the drivers seat, the hood gives the appearance of a stingray vette because of the flared front 1/4 panels and fenders.

If I had the backing and if the economy was booming, I would consider investing in a better audio magazine.

I wish I could figure out how people get this kind of deal. I thought we were going to have to go to fisticuffs to get me 3k off an Outlander six months ago.

Nissan is running a sale right now. I started looking at new car because Mazda is running zero percent 60 month financing. I looked at the RX8 and the New Mazda 6 which is a hell of a car. It now is in the class of the Maxima. It has a solid feel, handles better than my Acura and it has a beast of an engine with 270HP and 269ft/lbs of torque. I actually like the interior and body style better than the max but it had a stiffer ride and more road noise. Handling was about the same and the Max gets better MPG.

I really like the new Maxima, but I've always driven rear-wheel drive cars (the Outlander was for the missus). I suppose front-wheel drive is good in winter weather, but around here our winter weather seems like about two 1-day ice storms per year. I can just stay home. I'm thinking my next ride might a Nissan 370Z. I used to have a 300ZX and I'm back in the mood for one.

Here we go, the new Acura TL vs Nissan Maxima, interesting showdown: http://wrmag.nextautos.com/issue/41

Personally I'm not partial to the styling on any of the new Acura's (TSX, TL, MDX, RDX), but I've loved my last two car's.. Acura RSX and my current 06 TSX. My next car I have my eyes set on a C300 or 328xi, though I'm considering buying out the lease on my TSX

Enjoy your new Maxima, great car!

cheers,

Congrats blackraven. Early in '08 I was seriously considering an Altima with a V6. Don't recall the HP rating but I know it wasn't 290 for it or the Maxima. I bailed on the Altima and the Eclipse when I saw the HP numbers on the '08 Pontiac G8 GT. Just can't seem to get that "need for speed" ache outta my bones.

A coworker owns an '07 TL; he's happy with it but he wouldn't buy them anymore because he says the build quality has gone downhill. I don't think I've seen an '09, but I liked the looks of the '08.

Why these car makers are using BMW's as a benchmark is beyond me. It's not like they're including the "tech-in-truck" feature that BMW is sooooo famous for.

Yeah, and I'll bet it's a 6 banger that's better on gas than GM's 3800 V6 too.

He would probably say that while the Japanes can design a car with decent specs but they have no character. Your car is clearly inferior due to it's heritage...das neue reich could've done much better. Not the mention, the darn speakers aren't the required twelve feet apart...

Congrats, blackie. I've spent some time with the Maxima and it's nice. And, you're right. You will appreciate it in the winter.

Peace

I loved my Acura CL 3.0, but new Acuras just don't have that same styling anymore. Great cars, but ugly as a cow in a red dress.
Congrats on the the new Maxima. I'm sure you'll love it (even in the summer).

I do like the new look of the Z, though, very Porsche-like.

P.S. I clicked on the link that elapsed posted and stumbled on a picture of the new Honda FC, now that's a head-turner, if I ever saw one. Not sure about the rocket-cum-transformer rear end of it, but it's a far cry from anything else out there.

If money was no object, though, I'd get the Audi R8 (the one that Iron Man drove) - now that's a nice ride. Audi seems to be getting better; even the new TTS looks a lot less like a toy, now. But yes, it is a kraut-car, with all that that implies.

WTF, they don't come with speaker outriggers at that price??? That's just

Edit: I wish I knew Photoshop

If a new car meets your needs and wants, buy one. Regardless of what you buy (new or used), the primary consideration should be to ensure the cost (or payment) fits within your budget. A car is an expense, not an investment. Regardless of whether you buy new or used it is an expense.
However, it is very important to choose a worthy service that will become your "guide" in buying a car. I advise you to pay attention to the reviews. I can say that I bought my first car with Carzam reviews (https://carzam.pissedconsumer.com/review.html) and was right, so I can safely recommend this service to you.
