Songs the Cramps Taught Us
Fantastic compilation featuring a slew of songs The Cramps recorded, either in their original versions or with new lyrics in some cases. Great stuff like Goo, Goo Muck by Ronnie Cooks & The Gaylads, She Said by Hasil Adkins and much more fill this thing. 31 examples of old time rockabilly madness and not really a dud in the bunch. There's also a volume 2 and a volume 3 in this series, and they're all worth a listen.

I think I missed this one. Sounds like either it or some of the Las Vegas Grind stuff on Crypt could easily be contenders in the 'best rec' thread. I might actually have this lying around here somewhere, it's out of control, I'm telling ya.
I've got boxes of stuff I haven't had a chance to listen to. I tore two of 'em apart the other day because I could've sworn I'd seen a Hold Steady CD come in before I knew who they were or heard any of their toons. Ouch.
This looks real good.

There are actually three volumes of those. All great stuff. Worth digging out of a box if you got 'em lying around. I've only got MP3s, but if you're interested I can point you to the downloads.

as long as i'm hunting for a j, huh...what?
my law school buddy was a huge Cramps fan. He had a video of them playing for patients at a mental institution - talk about the nuts running the nut house. anyhow, i didn't pick up any Cramps back then. I'll have to re-visit them, but I did pick up 45s of the Woggles, Hillbilly Frankenstein, Galaxy Trio, Man, or Astro Man? a Sleezefest album and several early SCOTS singles and eps. I have two or three of the Las Vegas Grind series, an album of Japanese garage bands with Godzilla and that 3-headed monster (King Ghydrah?) on the cover.

Stoner...pass that **** over here.
I shouldda mentioned the Cramps as a band I miss. I guess technically they're still together, but I haven't heard much outta that camp the last couple years.
I really liked Dirt Track Date from SCOTS, but for some reason none of their other releases have really hit me nearly as well...although their Countrypolitan covers album last year was a fun listen and their countrified cover of T Rex's Life's A Gas was pretty great.
I've never heard Hillbilly Frankenstein, but I gotta say I love the name.
Saw Gorgeous Frankenstein not too long ago, some band by an ex Misfit that was pretty fun live, but I've never heard the record.
Those Las Vegas grind albums are great when in the right mood.

Obviously what happened today is a tremendous relief based on what could have been a horrible tragedy. But so long as the subject of me hunting came up...

Yeah. Used to really like those guys. I haven't listened to them in ages though. I need to remedy that.
