Is anyone else surprised about Shanahan?

I know the guy has been struggling to bring the team that he helped win 2 super bowls back up to par but was firing him really necessary?

I've been a Denver Broncos fan for years and still remember our good ole days well. I know it hasn't been the same since Elway left. And our team has changed greatly. No Eddie Guns,(that's my own nickname for him) No Terrell Davis (short lived, but an excellent run), No Sharpe, but still... it's like Shanahan has been an institution. I mean he's synonomous w/ the Broncos! It won't seem the same w/o him! :sad:

I'm sad for him. What a bummer. I hear they are even throwing Elway's name out to replace him. That would be strange I think. I've never pictured him as a "coach." :shocked:

I have heard rumors that the owner wanted hm to give up some of his other duties and stick to coaching. Shanahan refused so that was lead to his firing. I little bit of surprise but it seems like he forced their hand if the rumor is true.

As a Colts fan I was rooting for the Broncos last week. We always roll them pretty easily in the playoffs...... :D. SD is a little harder nut to crack as they have a decent offense that gives our porous D fits. Hopefully Peyton can keep the fireworks going and we win in a shoot out.

Not really surprised...I'm a huge Chargers fan and even I had given up on any hope of salvaging some dignity by making the playoffs this year 4 weeks ago...It took one of the most epic collapses I've seen in Football for Denver to blow it, and heads gotta roll. It's easier to fire a coach than to dump 20 players. I'm sure we haven't heard the last of him though.

I played O-Line while in the Service (2nd Infantry Div in Korea) and Flag (don't laugh the Line still blocks in Flag) football until I turned 50. I've NEVER EVER (either live or on TV) seen an O-Line PUNK a Defense like I did last Sunday. Denver QUIT on Mike Shanahan, I don't know when and I don't know why but I know quit when I see it. They didn't tackle, they didn't cover they didn't even get off the bus.

The Denver Bronco's D was a true "equal opportunity" doormat. They let the big guys run on em, the little itty bitty guys ran on em, the black guys ran on em, the white guys ran on em, the cheeleaders ran on em. It was so bad that when rookie Jacob Hester ran one in on the Broncos LT could be seen laughin' at Denver on national TV. That's disgraceful, how dare they show up for their paycheck after that gutless display Shanahan (who's never won jack without Elway) HAD TO GO!!!!

Sorry but the whole display pissed me off to no end.

We had a great team and great defense back in the day. It's too bad Shanahan couldn't keep it up. I know changes need to be made. I've been a Bronco fan for 14 years, the entire time Shanahan's bronzed face has been there as coach on the sidelines. Sorry, it's just a little sentimental for me to see him go.

I was frankly shocked to see Shanahan fired. He's a hall of fame coach, and it's sad to see his players just flat out quit on him. Every great coach reaches a point when players begin to tune them out, and 14 years is a long time. Even Parcells, Landry, and Noll had to endure mediocre seasons at the end of their tenure. And at the end of Bill Walsh's tenure with the Niners, his last Super Bowl championship team barely made the playoffs and there was all kinds of turmoil in the locker room because players were getting sick of Walsh's mind games. When George Seifert got hired the following season, the Niners had a dominating year with arguably their second best championship team.

Shanahan will get hired somewhere else, and he'll build a winner there as well.

For people slamming Shanahan for not winning without Elway -- remember that Elway didn't win any Super Bowls either until Shanahan came along. Even though I was never a Broncos fan, I hated the Raiders and it was fun seeing Shanahan deal out his semi-annual beatdown on Al Davis.

Later in the evening, Pappadeaux employee Bruce Read bussed the table and expressed dismay when, in lieu of leaving a csah tip, the three football luminaries left an autographed picture of Chike Okeafor as a gratuity.

Don't worry Fall Girl. He'll be back with the Rangers in short order. When they claim Avery off waivers from the Stars it should take little time to remember it was Shanny that pulled the reins on the bad boy in their first go-around.

Looks like the Dallas Convicts' offensive coordinator, Jason Garrett won't be here next year. He interviewed with the Broncos earlier this week, and even though Denver didn't make an offer, Garrett, when interviewed by the local press there talked like he'd already decided he won't be a Cowboy coach next year. I think the current Cowboy coaching staff will start being dismantled in the off-season.

Regarding Sean Avery, the local press gave Stars co-General manager Brett Hull a lot of heat for signing him. Brett must've taken a page out of Jerry Jones' hiring guidelines book. :rolleyes:

As a rookie he actually lived at the Hull residence in Detroit. I inagine Golden Brett thought he could control the madness.
