What are some comparable receivers to the Onkyo TX-SR806?

Is the Onkyo the best?

Should I get the 876 FTW?

The 876 has a better amp but you wont notice the difference. The 806 is a good receiver and has all the features you will need. You could even go with the 606 but you will get more power with the 806. Go to Onkyo's web site and compare them.

The Denon 2808, 2809 and Yamaha RX-V863 are comparable to the 806/876. The Marantrz SR5003 and 6003 compare favorably too. Any of these will do the job well. The Onkyo's are a lot of bang for the buck though. And with the 806's power you will be able to drive most speakers.

thanks. BUT

Since I first posted this I ran across a review on Amazon that says the PS3 does some weird conversion I dont understand and doesnt take advantage of the Onkyos video processors.

Anyone have any knowledge of the ps3 and its compatibility issues with AV receivers.

I am not sure about Onkyo, but my Denon 3808 has no issues with the PS3. The PS3 is set to upconvert DVDs. The Denon is set to upconvert analog to HDMI and HDMI to HDMI. The result is 1080p from every source to my Samsung 52" LCD Series 6. I have not heard of any issues with the PS3 other than there is and will not be any bitstream audio. That is my only beef with the PS3. Hope this helps.
