Happy Holidays One & All!

I have a Yay or Nay question about a 42" 1080P Dynex LCD

Model: DX LCD42HD-09 for $597 at BestBuy.

My apologies if My questions seem naive, but I trust Your opinions

and comments especially when trying to decide what products to consider.

Thanks for Your time =D

Don't touch it with a 10 foot pole!

For $799 at Costco you can get a far superior Panasonic 42" 1080p plasma (model TH-C42FD18) with, better color, black levels , contrast, off angle viewing and no motion blur (much better for sports broadcasts and games). It comes with a 90 day return and a two year warranty. Yes, plasma is still better and cheaper for the same quality and price than LCD. Panasonic is the most reliable brand of all flat panel TV's. The picture on this TV is superb. Don't judge by what you see in brightly lit stores. The brightest sets are not the best or necessary in your darker home.

Thanks for the comment!

Unfortunately I have a Best Buy card I'm hoping to use
to get my foot in the HD door.

The Panasonic You mentioned sounds great! Is it any
model or specific ones?

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated =D

Thanks!

The Costco model is the same as the Panny's regular models you should find at BB with very slight changes. Mainly the Costco model has PC input and a flat satin black bezel around the screen while the regular models have a shiny black bezel. If you need PC input get the TH-42PZ85U. No PC input get the TH-42PZ80U. If you can afford it the 85U also has better contrast and slightly better picture quality. Both are super sets. For a few bucks more check out the 46" model in both 80U and 85U. If you see the PX rather than PZ models they are the 768p resolution. 1080p is worth the extra bucks. The Panny models also get very good picture quality on SDTV and regular DVD's (not so with cheap brands like the one you listed).

Go to http://www2.panasonic.com/consumer-electronics/shop/Televisions/VIERA-Plasma-HDTVs.list.75003_11002_7000000000000005702 check out the above models.

Avoid extended warranties (they will push hard on these) and expensive cables etc. (big time profit makers for BB.) For quality cables at great prices go to:

http://www.monoprice.com/products/department.asp?c_id=102 (if you need HDMI cable get version 1.3)
