Cynic the band, not some of the posters around here.
Anyone heard these guys? I read about them in a metal mag, and the guitarist has some jazz background, and their new disc is supposed to have echoes of Return To Forever, etc. in it. He's also cited Alan Holdsworth as an influence.
Bobstix, I'm talking to you, I guess.

Whattup Finchy,
Nevah, evah heard of 'em before but thanks for the rec. If you're curious here's a bit more info:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cynic_(band)
It does sound like something I would get at least a temporary kick in the pants from though. Mebbe, mebbe...
Not too much of the hard stuff lately, though truthfully I've been home very little so it's usually been chill music late at night...mushroom jazz, hard bop...sometimes somethin' a little jingley. When it has been hard it's been real hard...some old school stuff from them Pantera boys:

...and that brings us back around full circle with the six degrees of separation. Check out what happens when a group of dino-proggers tries to rock like the masters...

God, would someone assasinate that singer already? :incazzato:
And WTF, that's not really a Cynic link, you dork!
I've been checking out Pantera lately, too. I'm a newcomer to them, and've been wondering where the hell I've been.
fp <-----Bumping yet another lameass thread from the top once again.

Dream Theater- Cemetary Gates

Wow, you put DT, Dave Mustaine, Russ Allen and maybe a few others I didn't recognize put together playing Pantera, and you have the single greatest musical cover ever done in the history of history.
That was cool!
Nice Find!
I've heard a bit of Cynic..they're...ok...if they resisted the urge to go heavy for the sake of heavy in the song writing and just let it come naturally, we'd have a real winner.
