2) Along those lines, not vevery product ids avaliable everywhere. Your choices will most likely be limited to what's available for the EU community.

Personal taste matters as well.

5) Is music an issue?

6) Are you asking about receivers, speakers or both?

Not a big fan of klipsch myself. I suggest you listen to some before deciding. It's your ears that are gouing to have to live with them for awhile.

Horns are not for everyone. When I listen to klipsch...the sound always seems to be coming at me from a box. Not alot of imaging to my ears.

Klipsch has a couple worth while points though, they will play loud with not much power, high sensitivity, and the horns give them a sound similar to what you might hear in a movie theater. That being a lot of midrange and crisp on the highs. You definitely want to listen for a bit to see if this sound is for you.

What features are you looking for in the amp? Are you going to be using high definition video from cable/satelite or Blu-ray? If so, do you want video switching from the amp/receiver remote? As Markw stated we need your input to help narrow the field. What brands do you have access to?

If your budget allows you might listen to B&K, NAD or Rotel, these may be a better match if going with Klipsch because they are "warmer" than many of the "big box" brands. You might find Klipsch's horns too much with a cheap receiver. On the down side these brands are slower to adapt the latest HD features. I believe Rotel has just released some gear that is up to date and I'm sure if NAD isn't they will be soon.

That said, if I were in your shoes, I'd look for either a used Arcam AVR600 home theater receiver or Rotel 15 series separates and marry that to speakers from Dali, Wilson Benesch, Tyler Acoustics, M&K or B&W speakers, like so...

I had to do a double-take myself. I believe he said that his budget was a minimum of 8000 Euro, which given the exchange rate, is quite a bit of greenbacks to spend. But when he mentioned the Klipsch, it threw me off a bit. Klipsch does have a reference line, but for the most part their speakers are priced for the everyman market. It's not the brand that comes immediately to mind if you're making a money-no-object purchase.

I completely forgot about Anthem, but I did think of Meridian. I used to spend quite a bit of time just drooling at their website. The only drawback for Meridian is that I don't think they've come out with any of the new True & Master HD formats on their processors. Not sure if that would be a deal breaker for the OP, so I left them out of the discussion.

That said, Meridian is still at the top of my list...if only there was a Santa Claus for adults.

Most of the higher end brands are slow to catch up on the HD decoding and HDMI. The Marantz combo is a good performer, better than the price would lead you to believe. Rotel made a big splash with it's first processor, I think the 1066, and have been holding their own since but I get the impression with this new gear they're getting agressive again. I have also heard good things about their digital amp. I'd like to go see what the buzz is about.

If I was buying HT, and I did recently, I'd get the latest technology to be "future proof" for a while, hopefully.

I would heed warning against Classe. Only because their after warranty service is spotty from my experience. They make good stuff....but if it breaks down the road(which mine did)...they don't really back their stuff up.

Rotel does though...I can say that as well from personal experience.

Classe' needs to rethink their direction. They've offered HT processors but I don't believe they are on par with gear the same price. And personally I wouldn't own the higher end Omega stuff if I got it for free. The sound is very dead and I was shocked it was Classe' and it was that price.

I don't consider Rotel of the quality to compete in that price range Classe' is in, the likes of Krell, Merridian, Primare etc. But Rotel is an excellent value at the price, it is, in.

Speaking of Krell they have a new $30k processor. I haven't heard it yet but from a dealer who brought one in for audition did not have good things to say about it. They will not handle it, no way to justify the price. They said the Anthem Statement killed it. This is from some pretty hard core Krell supporters.
