So where's everyone been hiding?

I love this site and the people here. But lately there just hasn't been enough action here to scratch my musical itch. In the past I've relied on the good folks here to provide musical recommendations and commentaries to help me find new music and expand my horizons. I owe a huge debt of thanks to everyone who has contributed to my musical growth and enjoyment over the last several years.

But this site just isn't delivering in that department anymore for so many reasons. I need to start searching elsewhere to fill that void. I have no plans on deserting AR, but I need more. Progressive Ears is great for the Progger in me, but I've learned that there is more to life than prog. So where does a girl go to get her fix when RR just isn't doing the trick anymore?

Maybe it's time to start some comp trading again.

Guess it depends what you're looking for. For modern rock derivatives, the internet is as good a place as any - except for a local record store with knowledgable staff you can rely on if you're fortunate enough to have that.

I learn a lot about other musics in books and at the library - huge catalogs of jazz, blues, classical, and international music there.

I agree. Although, admittedly I prefer the down loadable comp. I read everyone's comments and review of groups I've never heard of and how they compare to other groups I've never heard of...and then...

Well, I still don't know if it's a sound worth pursuing. I've bought many albums based on AR comps. I've bought few based on words.

I lurked a long time before I started getting involved in some comp swaps. Still wonder why I waited so long.

NP: Davey's Light so Dim comp :-)

I just got tired of being mocked & ridiculed for my bad musical tastes.

It's not my fault you don't like King Crimson and Adrian Belew.

I been posting quite a bit about my musical finds. I think a lot of what I like is pretty good actually, better than say...what everyone else likes;)

Maybe I'll shootcha a comp (one of those download thingies). Thing is, a lot of our year end comps are going to have some crossover. Been doing a lot of the power pop lately - you know, what some folks call indie (Keane, The Sea & Cake, TV On The Radio, DCFC) ...I mean, its not really indie anymore is it? I do have a few good (really) indie releases that know one here seems to have picked up on.

Prog just hasn't done anything for me this year. There is a Frost CD that is coming out next week, so there's still hope. I don't know if you liked the first one, Milliontown, but I still listen to it 2 years later. I'm getting the new Marillion - its a full two-CD set, so that means it'll make a great 50 minute comp. I may even get the new It Bites CD...maybe.

Hi, Fy!

You old momur!

Late last night
I was speaking with my wife
when she turned into a momur
tried to put me uptight
I said "You don't scare me"
then she let out a scream
that's when my heart started jumpin'
like a broken t.v.

She was a momur and it was just like I told ya'
she said "You better watch out, I might bite a big hole in ya'"

The very next morning
I was watching cartoons
when I thought I saw a momur
it was you know who
well, she backed me in a corner
tried to kill me with a broom
and shouted personal remarks
from across the living room

She was a momur and it was just like I told ya'
she said "You better watch out, I might bite a big hole in ya'"

Late last night
I was speaking with my wife again
when she turned into a momur again
tried to put me uptight again
she took me favorite guitar
and she smashed it on the floor
when she danced around on top of it,
I thought I might get sore

She was momur

"The song "The Momur" from "Lone Rhinoceros"
tells the story of a man who's wife turns into a "momur" (a critic);
probably not really science fiction."

Love that SJ album - FA, if you don't have that one; you should!

FA - if you like Fleet Foxes, then might try Bon Iver, which is just like Fleet Foxes, only without the cavernous reverb.

Oh man, I hate that itch. I have a big tube of some generic ointment, can't remember the name right now, but when I get that itch, and start squirming around in my chair, that's what I reach for ...

Oh wait, maybe I didn't read that right, looks like you are actually itching for a new community of music nerds, ready to move on, someplace with a bunch of immature old fogeys like here, except with more of them, eh? If you can get past all of the silly Beatles threads that come up over and over and over and ... then the http://www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/showthread.php?t=165189 site is pretty good and pretty popular. Some of them haven't moved past the 70s, but there is a wide assortment of weirdos there that will talk about just about any time dimension. Of course, like here, none of my posts get any response, but I doubt that would be much of a consideration :p

Exploring classical music will keep you going for a long time

Check out my beginners' recommentation in my signature, or visit Classical.net's Beginner's Guide (http://www.classical.net/music/guide/beginner.php) for some good advice and repertoire lists.

I do, of course :D but not by much ( a couple of tenths). Finchy's ride wins in a game of chicken, though.

Fall Girl, oh Fall Girl...wherefor art thou.

Tough time of year, eh? Lotta priorities and, frankly, not a lot of great, break-through music commin' out to talk 'bout. Big Daddy's back to stir things up though...

LOL! My boys are playing with heart, which is more than I can say for past years.

Thanks for the music recs guys. I'll definately check them out. I was so busy and distracted over the summer that I didn't buy much new music and now I'm jonesing for some new tunes. I'm really liking that new Kaiser Chiefs disk though.

And I'm all for some comp trading. Whatever happened to Rae and the latest CRS disk that he was supposed to make, anyway? :sosp:
