Hey all, NooB here, just looking for some advise on upgrading my Home Theatre.
Here's what i have so far:
52" Tosh DLP
PS3
DVD
Dish HD
polk Ti 10's upfront
Polk Center Channel -forget the model (CS series though IIRC)
Powered sub (to be determined, non powered took a dump :( )

Looking to stay around $700ish, found the Onkyo 806 for $700, but have read they run hot, is this a good buy, or can i do better for my $ ?

30% used for gaming
25% movies
20% music
20% TV/Sports

Here's a better price on the 806. http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=onkyo+806&tag=googhydr-20&index=aps&hvadid=2193167561&ref=pd_sl_5xn8oyvd2r_b The 806 is a very good AVR for the money. You could do a lot worse, it has a very good amp section.

I wouldnt worry about the heat as long as its not in an enclosed space and has adequate ventilation. There is alot of audio equipment that runs hot, especially tube equipment.

Thnaks! I was actually going to order it thru Crutchfield (679 after $20 off) and get their xtended warranty (5 yr $70) just incase :P

Yeah for 700 I'd be looking at Onkyo & maybe Yamaha.

Agree with BR and L.J. ...... Amazon has it for $635.42 shipped thru 6th Ave (this is a dealer with a good reputation).

I never buy extended warranties on receivers (or any other products except for tape recorders or tape camcorders). Receivers have a very low failure rate. If they do fail it is usually within the first year.

The Onkyo's run hot IMO because they have a beefy amp. With proper ventilation there should be no problem.
