I was so taken with the Brian Vander Ark disk that I’ve posted about here that, not only did I order the real thing but I also ordered his two previous solo disks. Resurrection, from 2003, arrived yesterday. The other disk is on back order and should ship in early November.
Although I felt like I was taking a bit of risk ordering these two unheard CDs, Resurrection has not disappointed me. After three spins, this CD has a little more of a pop sound than the most recent BVA that mysteriously appeared on my iPod. Although I’m not really familiar with The Verve Pipe, I suspect that this is a transitional disk that carries over some of the commercialness of The Verve Pipe while also exploring Brian’s much softer solo style.
I prefer the tunes on his more recent self-titled disk, but this debut solo disk is also very good and had I heard this one first, I still would have wanted to explore more. I can’t wait for the next disk to arrive.
