As some might remember, two of my closest friends run an "art house" theatre here in Albany called "The Spectrum Theatre". They've been showing stuff since 1982 that Hoyts, now Regal wouldn't touch with your hands.

Every year Kieth and Sugi go to the Toronto Film Festival and every year I pick their brains (must eat BRAINS) to find out what I might wanna watch this year or the the next. Here are some of the flicks that left them impressed.

1. "The Wrestler" - This film starring Mickey Rourke (a very pumped up Mickey Rourke) follows the life and times of a washed up wrestler. The said it his performance was/is Oscar worthy.

2. "The Martyrs" - We'll be talking about this one right up there withe "Salo" and other as too violent for words. French film about a woman tortured for 15 years and her lust for revenge.

3. "Zack and Mimi Make a Porno" - Supposedly sweet and funny and sad.

4 "Soul Power" - The companion piece to the Academy Award winning documentary "When We Were Kings". This one focuses on the music festival, also organized by Don King that was supposed to coincide with the Ali Foreman Fight.

Hope this gives you something to look forward to.

Thanks Worf. I thought you were here and was all ready to give you a piece of my mind (but NOT my brain!) for not letting me buy you a beer.

I'm going to rant for a minute about the TIFF and the media.

[RANT]Every single night the local news reported on stars that were in town, who they wore, what they ate, where they shopped. There were detailed reports on the parties, who showed up, what was served, what time the last guest left.

I can tell you all about the critic who whacked Ebert on the head with a binder. But I can't tell you dick about the movie they were watching when it happened. :nonod:

I don't give a **** who Jennifer Aniston was wearing. What I'd like to know is what movies created buzz and why. This is a FILM festival not the g-damned Academy Awards. I'd really like to hear about the FILMS!

And Double WOW. Tell us how you really feel!!! Man, I've never seen/heard you so exorcised on a topic. Whoooo doggies, welp I guess if I had Hollywood, Bollywood and every other Cinema mogul and star in my back yard once a week every year I'd be a little P.O'd by the coverage as well.

Working in the State Capital, all I get are smarmy politicians and grafters by the score. Count yer blessings.

Yeah, sorry about that. The media really tick me off. It's just another example of pandering to the mindless gossip mongers and not reporting on what's important.

As for the smoked meat sammy, anytime my friend. Anytime. Although, I've been told that you need to visit Montreal for the best smoked meat.
