Not HDMI but my ears!

I had an experience that I would like to share.

Mr.Peabody told us about his HDMI cable being the problem with his HT. I had a simular problem with my ears.

I've had an SACD player for a while now. It sounded better than redbook. But I never knew just how good. Well I went into the doctor for my yearly check up and a Prostate check :nonod: and to my surprize the doctor said my ears where full of wax. So he flushed them. Boy oh boy, I never knew that my Marantz SACD was putting out that much detail and clarity. Just a flush of my ears and its like I have a new SACD player. Next time have your ears flushed at the docs office.

I am moving back to St.Louis from Raliegh/Durham NC. Due to a transfer through my company. Man was I mistaken to do this. I never knew how good I had it here in the south. I just got back from a 7 day trip to St.Louis looking for a new home. Boy, housing in St.Louis is very expensive. And all the traffic in the morning...its as if every one is late for work. They where all over 270. And the city is so spread out. In one week, I went through two tanks of gas. If we find good housing near the job, then we have to drive miles for shopping. If we move to St.Charles, St. Peters or Ofallon where the good homes and shopping are, then we spend tons on gas driving to work, dealing with the crazy fokes on 270 and the Page extention, and tons of gas getting the kids to school. That St.Louis I tell you is a crazy place with all the traffic and conjestion of people. I moved away 7 years ago and I guess I got spoiled living in a small college town with plent of trees and small roads with nothing to do but listen to music, drink sweet tea, and watch the Tar Heals, and Duke Blue Devils go at it. I guess the bright spot of my trip back home was that I got to go to HIFI FOE FUM . Next time I will go to Music For Pleasure.

LOL, honestly you don't know how many folks don't know how simple a thing as ear wax can affect musical enjoyment...

....and it's usually the high-frequency stuff that goes first. So if your listening to some jams and that high-hat doesn't quite have that zing, or of your missing that over hang that bounces around after a pianist plays a dense chord, it's a good plan to go to the local Rexall and squirt the handles....

I believe that I permanently damaged my hearing buy having my ears cleaned at just the wrong time. When I was about 20 I experienced an ear blockage; the doctor flused my ears and I was amazed at the high-frequency sounds I could suddenly hear.

Unfortunately at the time I was doing some indoor range shooting, mostly .22 caliber rifle. At the time unfortunately the supposedly knowledgable shooters at the club didn't think that .22 shooting required ear protection. Coincidentally or not, I developed permanent tinnitus around that time. I suspect my high-frequency hearing was also damaged though it wasn't tested. Today I am completely deaf above 10kHz, although of course I'm also pretty old too.

Feanor sorry to hear about your hearing. But I see you still enjoy good sound from your gear.

Worfster I cleaned my ears daily. It was the cleaning method that clogged my ears....using q-tips.

Have you tried a ear cleaning kit?

Using Q-tips isn't such a great idea. While the periphery will benefit, the inner ear will become further impacted as cerumen is (inadvertantly) pushed in in the attempt to remove it. Using lubricants helps, before irrigation; make sure the water is at room temp and don't do it if your eardrum is perforated, has an infectoin, etc.

Rich's plans to see the EENT is a goood idea. The ear, nose and throat are interconnected....If you swim frequently or live in the mountains, these conditions may impact (hmmm) upon your hearing.

Some company is advertising an ear-wax removal system that squirts (there's that word again) the removal solution back towards the opening of your ear from inside. Probably overpriced and over rated. :rolleyes:

I love the sound of Hydrogen Peroxide bubbling in my ears, and the tingly sensation it gives me.
