I already know mine, so I don't have to check. It's "Telstar" by the Tornadoes...a wonderfully kitschy, sci-fi-style instrumental (with the emphasis on "mental'). I wonder if I can download it somewhere...

You're lucky. Did I mention I got a Pat Boone song?

Hot damn. I was pretty bummed out by the saccharin-sweet, feather-haired popsmear to which I was relegated until I remembered that if you switch from the Gregorian to Julian calendars you earn a few days.

Yeah, bay-bay...secondbest stripper song of the decade:

Good one. Worthy of a rose. But when I tried to give it to you I got, "You must spread your flower around to others before giving it to kexodusc again."

Mr. Peabody, you must be psychic! My song is Swinging On A Star by Bing Crosby from Going MyWay in 1944. My mother danced with Bing during one of his shows. That is our families one claim to fame.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot, my uncle had a swing/big band orchestra during the 20's thru the 50's in the Rocky Mountain West.

Roses Are Red was from the year I graduated from high school. (wow)

Holy Sh*t #2. I just looked up the song for the approximate date I was conceived. It was Paper Doll by the Mills Brothers. That is one of my all time favorite songs (after Why Don't We Do It In The Road by the Beatles). Maybe my parents were listening to that song while they were .......... oh, never mind.

RR6 :D

PS: Listening to Paper Doll that is! (I have no idea where the name RoadRunner came from)

Mine's Jimmy Dean's "Big Bad John". Okay, I'll ask: Has anyone heard of this song? I don't have a clue.

I know of a reference to "Jimmy Dean" in "Rock On, Rock'n'Roll, ooohoh Rock On".

Cheers,

Bill

I've heard it. You should try to download a copy just to hear it. It's one of those story telling songs. If you don't like the song, try the sausage :)

The Lyrics:

(Big John Big John)
Every mornin' at the mine you could see him arrive
He stood six foot six and weighed 2-45
Kinda broad at the shoulder and narrow at the hip
And everybody knew you didn't give no lip to Big John
(Big John Big John) Big Bad John (Big John)
Nobody seemed to know where John called home
Just drifted into town and stayed all alone
He didn't say much he kinda quiet and shy
And if you spoke at all you just said hi to Big John
Somebody said he came from New Orleans
Where he got in a fight over a Cajun Queen
And a crashin' blow from a huge right hand
Sent a Louisiana fellow to the Promised Land Big John
(Big John Big John) Big Bad John (Big John)
Then came the day at the bottom of the mine
When a timber cracked and men started cryin'
Miners were prayin' and hearts beat fast
And everybody thought that they'd breath their last cept John
Through the dust and the smoke of this man made hell
Walked a giant of a man that the miners knew well
Grabbed a saggin' timber and gave out with a groan
And like a giant oak tree he just stood there alone Big John
(Big John Big John) Big Bad John (Big John)
And with all of his strenght he have a mighty shove
Then a miner yelled out there's a light up above
And twenty men Scrambled from a would be grave
Now there's only one left down there to save Big John
With jacks and timbers they started back down
Then came that rumble way down in the ground
And the smoke and gas belched out of the mine
Everybody knew it way the end of the line for Big John
(Big John Big John) Big Bad John (Big John)
Now they never reopened that worthless pit
They just placed a marbled stand in front of it
These few words're written on that stand
At the bottom of this mine lies a big big man Big John
(Big John Big John) Big Bad John (Big John Big John) Big Bad John

Well, I guess my Bing Crosby song isn't so bad after all. I am actually old enough to remember this song. Sorry Bill, it was pretty bad!
