Although panned by critics in the 80’s as “pretty boys” band, but IMO their music endurance may have proved them wrong. They managed to put out few good albums with memorable songs, and they did not follow same strategy as Hair bands did where hair spray ruled the day.
Although they still put out albums, but their earlier albums produced more crafty songs. If you are a big fan, it will be hard to choose only three favorite songs.
Not in any particular order:
Planet Earth from their debut self title album

New Moon On Monday from Seven and the Ragged Tiger.

Hold Back the Rain from Rio

Guilty Pleasure song
A View To a Kill from James Bond movie Soundtrack.

Hey, while everyone is sittin' around debating on how much answering this post would injure their indie-hipster cred, I'll go ahead and hop on first.
My exposure to D2 came late, the result of a female unit (my version of Swishy's current spouse)having won tickets to the "Notorious" tour. Unexcited and with a closed mind I went on only to be blown away by the absolute professionalism displayed.
Sure it's on the pap side of pop but it's well done...making it proficient, polite, pappy pop...(sorry 'bout that).
Top three? I'd say Planet Earth, Notorious, and Skin Trade.
I'd rather see these guys play the Super Bowl than any of the other old fogey brigade members they've been pulling onstage as of late.
How ya like them apples?

By far top 3 are Rio, Notorious and Ordinary World, maybe even that order.

I only have one question for you Bob. In Bruce Springsteen thread few months ago, you said only discovered him just few days before, and now exposure to D2 came very late. Didn’t you ever listen to radio or watch MTV in the 80’s? You give a new meaning to living under a rock :ciappa:
I never been to their concert, but bet it must have been pretty exciting watching them live on stage. They must have played your top three in that concert as they are my favorite too, especially Skin Trade.
In 1985, Simon Lebon, Nick Rhodes and Roger Taylor form the band Arcadia which also put out pretty good album-So Red The Rose.
Kex, than you for your top three also. Haven't listen to Ordinary World in a long time, so I am fixing to download MP3 of that song to refresh my memory :)

A detailed list can be found here (http://forums.audioreview.com/showthread.php?t=10612&highlight=nitzer+ebb) rock boy. :dita: Plus, I was studying and performing a variety of genres (i.e.jazz and classical). Combine that with swattin' things with a stick and there's not alot of time for pop culture.
Plus I think I was like seven when they debuted so there may have been an awareness issue.
The Arcadia disc was a good one.
Peace out

What I lack in experience I make up for with wit and guile...at least in comparison to your socks.

Don't worry Bob, since you know about Arcadia, your credit is restored.
BTW, your ever changing avatars are pretty cool :)

Aw man, I'm getting the "Hello noddin0ff it appears that you have not posted on our forums in several weeks"... (I'm sure you've never seen this, bs)
To break the streak, the BEST Duran Duran songs are
Is There Something I Should Know?
New Religion
Lonely in Your Nightmare
With special honors going to the uncensored "Girls on Film" video.

Rio, View to a Kill, Thank you (Led Zep)...
The videos were pretty hot, too, if anyone remembers....Hungry Like a Wolf was darn near risque, if memory serves.

Thanks guys for addition to the list of favorite songs (and noddin0ff, it is about time). The Thank You song Auricauricle mentioned came from same tittle album-although it is a cover song album, had few outstanding songs including Elvis Costello’s Watching the Detective and Lou Reed’s A Perfect Day. I wish more band would do cover songs. It is fun to see how two bands handle same song.
The song New Religion Stone mentioned was kind of hit and miss with me, although it seem to be fans in live concert favorites. And Save A Prayer Musicman mentioned might be their best ballad song, with excellent video to accompany it.
And I agree that some of their video did push the envelop a bit, especially for prime time MTV. If I remember correctly, MTV would not play uncensored Girls on Film video unless it was edited down.

Actually, Smokey, I got the Led Zep cover from a compilation called Encomium, a collection of Zep tunes covered by other musicians including Big Head Todd and the Monsters (Tangerine), Hootie and the Blowfish (Hey Hey What Can I Say) Sheryl Crow (D'yer MAker), etc. Strange thing, there is no cover for Stairway....I supposed this was a shaow of deference to the original. Good, solid album, in any case.....

Thanks Auricauricle, was not aware of that cover album. I am guessing some songs from Led Zep (like Stairway you mentioned) are better left as it is. Not too many people can duplicate vocal range of Robert Plants voice or power play of Jimmy Page's guitar work that works well with songs they produced.

I missed this (http://www.mirror.co.uk/celebs/3am/2007/10/25/duran-duban-89520-20005043/) the first time around. There's something to be said for consistency.

The article said that censors gave the video an X rating. So we will probably see it on Internet :)
But poking fun at rehab might not be such a wise decision. Although some celebrities do use a rehab as a publicity stunts, but some (especilly non celebrities) truley need such a facility to over come their problem with drugs and alcoholic.

Absolutely Smokey. And that's a good point, I just got caught up in the celebration of scantily clad females to have socially relevant thoughts fer a minute.
