I just bought a pioneer sx 1250 that was in mint condition on ebay a little while ago. Today for the first time when I tried to use my cd player connected to the aux when I turned on the pioneer sx1250 it made some clicking noises, something like a lcd tv when you turn it off. No sound came out when i turned on the cd. I switched to radio and that worked ok then phono ok too. switched back to cd no sound. I played the radio for about 10 min and then tried again. No clicking sound and cd worked. Any idea what caused this? I moved my pioneer hpm 100 speakers to 2nd floor in living room. Seems to have lost some of that rich base sound. speakers on floor. Maybe stands would help? Thank you for your advice. Sincerely, Shaun

Is that the amp warming, powering up?.The paper insulation in the tranformer could be old, dried out? The sx1250 is over 25 years old,Glad to hear you got a nice one.Maybe the reciever was jostled a bit during shipment,or it is so minty or new that it was "sticky".Was it reconditioned? If it gets worse, safely check on the internal fuses(conditions).Hope that your tunes dont stop on you, remember ebay is a little bit like gambling at a real busy place. You just never really know ,ya know.As for simply getting more bass,Postion them,or one if you can in a corner.Stands may help bring the bass sound closer to ear level, feeling it in your eardrum may help. If the room is carpeted, get a small sub to bring up the bottom end. Things will resonate quite differently in certain rooms.IMO, i just know i know not a lot.I really like the older pioneer equip too,I'd probly baby it for a while while it cooks off that 70's dust! Hope that helps some, and be carefool with all that power!

Could be a bad circuit breaker but that is just a guess.
If the line out of the CD is a tad high a weak relay in the protection circuit could have tripped, but it stopped after it loosened up a bit.
Run it at low power for a week or so, could also be a capacitor,
or a short causing said relay to trip.
Try the CD in another input if it happens again, and
good luck.:1:

Thank you for your advice. I will run it at less power. You are right about being careful. You can't turn the vol control very far without it getting very loud fast. The only other thing the guy missed that sold it to me was the tuner is 3 positions off on the radio stations. I got 2 estimates to get if fixed. One was about an hour guess? $60 and on was about $20. It is so heavy I would have to let them come to my house to fix it. I might just put up with it.

The unit was not reconditioned. He went through it, took pictures with the cover off and it looked brand new inside and out. Even the owners manual looked new , like it had not been read.

Pixelthis is right,
the clicking sound may be a relay...

have you tried plugging your cd player into another input? I assume you plugged it into 'aux' or so, you could try a tape input or so too. If it's still there, the problem lies in the line level preamp section, if it's gone, there's something wrong with the particular input.

good luck, and I hope everything turns out well, the SX-1250 is a wonderful machine...

Keep them spinning,
Bert.

So far so good. I have not had to switch the cd player to another location. The clicking noise has not come back. I will keep using it. Maybe it was stored and not used and just needs to be run.
