Ooohh Lawrence Welk and his tribute to Hoagy Carmichael. Norma Zimmer sang "Rockin' Chair". Years later when I heard Maria Muldaur sing "Rockin' Chair" I thought oh that is how the song sounds with some emotion. Sure I am drunk but I spent a lot of Saturday nights with my grandmother a LW fan. I have other Norma Zimmer stories if anyone is interested.

Absolute respect, but take it with a grain of salt. Some would argue it's like being given a "Key to the City" By Tony Montana...real pillar of the community, ain't I.
Hey, random thought: where's Davis Love the Monkey and Finchey been? Mayhap everyone's on holiday?

For the oenophiles among the audiophiles, you may wanna keep this on file:
DANGEROUS
Can I help you with dinner?
Wow, you sure look good in brown!
Could we be overreacting?
You know, there are a lot of apples left.
I hope you didn't over-do it today.
SAFER
What's for dinner?
Are you wearing that?
What are you so worked up about?
Should you be eating that?
What did you DO all day?
SAFEST
Where would you like to go for dinner?
WOW! Look at you!
Here's my paycheck.
Can I get you a piece of chocolate with that?
I've always loved you in that robe!
ULTRA SAFE
Here, have some wine.

Lol, good point. I particularly enjoyed the Getcha Back track, #7 I believe. Got a good chuckle and figured that who ever did that one really out to go through the whole Robert Cray catalog and funk-ify some more bitter blues-n-wordplay.
Was digging the Mr. CEO cut, but my better half shut off the tunes 'cause' she couldn't stand it. Thought the whole comp was running strong up 'till then, before settling into a more mellow and kinda refreshing country groove.
Could've done without the last two techno tracks. but they didn't maim. No harm, no foul.
I rank the whole thing very highly in my 2+ years of leeching RR comps. The bonus disks were much appreciated, I Gotta Dance especially.
I have no idea who any of the tracks were. Can't remember which track I kept thinking sounded like Kim Deal or Tanya Donelly, but I assumed i was way off track and didn't ponder more.

Kewl. Somebody had some fun.
The "I'm Gonna Getcha Back" track was from the new Eli "The Paperboy" Reed & the True Loves disc that I've flogged a few times 'round these parts. Kinda ginger for the musical palette.
I had fun making this one and you're right bout there being a pretty diverse and sometimes annoying cacaphony of sonic sprawl. Lot's o' different stuff moving away from the strictly dissonant jingle and alt of alt-country toward somethings different.
I've fallen into the habit of putting any "techno" or synth-based stuff at the end just for folks with sensibilities like your own.
Everyone got a bonus---most different and based on my sometimes limited perception of their tastes---so it should be interesting to read the results. Hopefully peeps found something likeable, or at least something about which they can flame up a storm.
We haven't heard much from Swishy lately...no doubt he put on his best polyester eveningwear and is Schottisching the night away to the rhythm of the polka disc I sent his grumpyass.

Good work bobsticks. Obscurity Vol.1 spins right now. My sensibilities are similar to noddinoffs' concerning the synth stuff at the end. I spotted the Paperboy Reed track (good album that), and a couple of tracks sound very familiar. Enlighten me. Track 3 is right up my Strasse.
Also thanks for the bonus discs. Who has been a busy boy then?
Thanks.

Yeah, that's actually a B-Side from The Klaxons. Not at all the usual fare from them...so it made the cut.

You'd think that J. Tweedy might have a little pull with the ol' mail carriers. Not so, I guess.
Got the package yesterday 'sticks. I'll be on vacation next week, so I'll load the tunes onto my iPod and try to give them a listen while chillin' on the beach (or hiding from the rain) and will report back upon my return.

Well, as much as I like to pretend, I'm not sure that you could call central Ontario tropical...unless you count some of the tropical-like storms that we've experienced this summer. We've rented a cottage for the week. Not that the steel drums wouldn't have helped to feed my illusions. :)
