Good morning, puppies!

My name is Auricauricle and I am, like you, a fanatic about sound and listen to far too much music. I am not a real snob about equipment, believing that such matters are dictated by the same rules that apply to any "luxury" items like wine or cigars: personal taste, expense, and just plain liking what you've got. Although there is a clear distinction between cheap plastic crap found at the local five-and-dime and more expensive gear, the rule of diminishing returns applies after a fashion. The Aa moniker applies to my penchant for hearing certain distinctions, but after buying three CD's of Dark Side of the Moon because of these sonic characteristics, I knew I was totally out of my reasonable head.

But that's what the Audio Bug does to you, I guess!

I know a good thing when I see or hear it, having listened to and owned quite a lot of gear over the years.

Looking forward to chewing some fat and listening to more good tunes.

Darn, they're not intravenous, yet!

Welcome Aa, and thanks for the abbreviation. I'm sure the obligatory nicknames are not far behind, once folks get to know you.

There are plenty of nuts here, and some audio enthusiasts, too. :yesnod:

Never tried it.

I have good memories of cold, rainy afternoons in Tokyo and Yaki Soba....

I resemble that remark.

Welcome to AR AA. I too have more copies of DSOTM than can reasonably be explained.

lemme check...
twice on vinyl,
another picturedisc (also vinyl), one time on CD, and I would have the SACD and the DVD if I had an SACD player and a surround setup :)

there is a reason people tend to buy this album more than once :D

Keep them spinning,
Bert.

Remember, amigo: There is no dark side of the moon, really. As a matter of fact, it's the other side of the LP!

Nothing like a hot cup of joe on a cold rainy afternoon, curled up with the jazz collection.

Aahh, I can see it now...locked away in some tiny room in Shinjuku, rain beating against the windows and the creatures of the night frolicking in the neon streets below...the clunk of "Money" and the lofty overature that is the title track...steaming noodles and almond coffee, maybe some Suntory too. Jah, I can think of worse ways for the clock to tick away.

Welcome to the club Aa.

What, no Hoppy?

...goes well with the Stones.

If you get a chance check out the SACD version of "Dark Side...", IMO the best although many will argue in favor of vinyl.

Just go grab a beer (or a CASE) and read one of the old SpankingVanillaIce threads.
Damn, those were some good times.

One problem with a music server, my CDs are packed away so it's hard to find my 3 copies of Dark Side of the Moon. I have the "standard" release (Columbia?), a Mobil Fidelity Gold release and an English release (Epic?) Of the three, the English release is the best, the Mobil Fidelity was a disappointment.

Haven't heard the SACD, but currently I have no dedicated player. I know first hand that any digital decoder is vitally important to good sound, that places the SACD players with the better reviews out of my price reach.

Like it says, my grandpa was also an audiophile, so I inherited a bunch of his gear. I must say we share very similar tastes!

Hey Dude,

Nice to see you around again.
We are sorry to hear about your grandfather. Now we know why you have such insatiable hunger and lover for music/gears.
I image P3 is a huge leap forward compared to a Garrard you had before.
Now, go get a summer job and buy some minty wax.

Peace out,

Wish the Harmon Kardon and CJ were still a part of my life; alas, they are not. That was another time, in another life time...Primary source is the Yamaha, at least, until I get my Master's....

why did you have to let them go? (if I can ask...) those were, and still are great components...

good luck with the studies (Master's = Master's degree, right?), what are you studying?

I used to own an all C-J system, while accuracy wasn't it's strength it was seductive. As in lights dimmed, candles lit, glass of wine sultry blond seductive. Hoo boy, illegal in some southern states seductive.
