Many thanks to Dean_Martin for a PM letting me know about a place that had 'open box' models for a nice discount and they're fully warranted, unlike the last piece 'o crap I bought. That one was just returned for a refund, so I went to the site that Dean mentioned and they had one black one left, so I ordered it immediately. I should have it sometime next week and will be playing vinyl soon, after about 2 months of frustration.

Since getting those LPs for my big 5-0 birthday a few months ago, it's been nothing but misery trying to play them. Just a total debacle that's cost me more than a few hundred bucks and buckets of pain.

So I get a call today from the company and the guy says 'you wanted the blue colored table, right?", to which I replied "No, I wanted the gloss black. My HT room is mostly black, as is my HT equipment and amps, with a little silver thrown in, so blue would not be good". Someone bought the last black one off the floor and the salesman didn't note in on their website, so it was an error. Now another guy is going to call me to see if he can make it right. They also sell Rega tables, so I may be making a switch. I should have known this was too good to be true.

Swish - totally bummed.

Is it really worth all this drama when a new one only costs $300? Just sayin' . . . . .

...fact that the first one was supposed to be basically a new table that was returned after just a few days by the first buyer, claiming it wasn't working properly. The seller took it back, checked it, and said it worked fine. It was then damaged in shipping to me, at least that's what appears to be the problem.

This latest is a new table that was 'open box', but now it appears to be out of stock. The guy calling me tomorrow will likely offer a new one in lieu of this, or maybe a Rega instead. I do wish I had purchased a new one from the start, especially considering what has happened since then, but I didn't want to get back into vinyl in the first place. If I did, I'd prolly be in the $1000+ range for a table.

Hey, it's only money. You'll make more next week :)

I think Rega P1 w/ RB100 will be a solid performer. I was really impressed with RB-100 for its price.

Just a thought: Sometimes it's worth paying, say, $100 more on a brand new TT than taking chances on a used deck.

...unless you really stretch the term 'used'. The first buyer said it didn't work and returned it to the seller in less than 1 week. He informed me it was basically a new deck but he couldn't say it was new because of the situation.

I have no problem spending the money, as my HT equipment would tell you if it could talk. My whole point was to listen to some vinyl without spending a ton of cash. I have a room full of guitars (5) and related amps and equipment, along with my HT rack that includes a 7.1 system and I really didn't want another expensive hobby or one that would be fighting for more space. I found what should have been a 'bargain' but didn't end up that way. I've gotten plenty of bargains in the past and wouldn't hesitate to go that route again under the right circumstances.

In this case, it didn't work out, and I'm actually having a good time relaying all the pitfalls and setbacks I've had to the the member on RR. I thought everyone would be laughing about my personal three-ring circus, and some probably are, but I don't need a lecture from anyone about buying used. I'm not ticked off at you and Slosh for doing just that, but I I'm not taking this saga too seriously. I have bigger things to worry about.

Regards,
Swish

Well of course you're right Jayra but you gotta follow the plot. Swisheroo didn't really want to get back into vinyl, which has turned out to be a daunting propostion for the self-proclaimed most stubborn man in the Western Hemisphere.

..plus you can use the extra Hundy to grab a few more six-packs of Chrysanthemum Petal Meady Poop Ale.

It was causing some gastronomic discomfort that had me doubled over in pain, a quality that I don't find appealing in my beer. I'm now favoring the Wells Banana Bread Beer, which is chock-full of hoppy bitterness.

Hhhmm, never tried the Banana dealio...can't say that it even sounds appealing though I've enjoyed a bottle or two of Lindeman's Framboise Lambic as a dessert beverage.

Damn it, this is exactly why I can't get into TV shows. You gotta keep us with all details...

Good luck with your journey.

I was laughing a few weeks ago when Jim Clark was asking, in a thread here on RR, how the vinyl was sounding. Well, not so good yet! Now the turntable expert at the place where I ordered the new one has been out for several days with car troubles and what not, so I still don't have anything concrete from this place. I'm also still waiting on the refund from the first seller, and expect that to be no problem, but you never know.

Swish - ready to implode

If you really wanna go cheap, simple and new; here's a close-out on a Denon, cart and phone stage included for $200. Never heard it, but I've heard some good comments about it.

Thanks for the heads up! I still haven't heard back from the other place where the Pro-Ject is out of stock, so I ordered this Denon last night, sent and e-mail to cancel my order at the other place, and got notice of my refund on the original table that I returned.

I did some checking and this table should be just the ticket for me, and, like you said, it's brand spanking new with full warranty, and has a good reputation to boot.

Much obliged,
Swish

Hope it works out for you. Like I said, I haven't heard it, but I have considered picking one up at that price to replace my old automatic Technics number. Let us all know how it sounds when it arrives.

Wow.

This entire angst-filled time that you've been anxiously waitnin' on the deliveryman I've been listening to popfree CD's, SACD's, DVD-A's, and even DAD's on any one of my troublefree, no-hassle, non-broken, digital units. Old people sure are stubborn. :ciappa:

I can't wait to hear the Rice Crispies on the first LP to play on my new (not sort of new, really new) turntable. I'm not counting my chickens just yet since I haven't received delivery confirmation from the company. I can hear them already, telling me 'we're really sorry, but the item is out of stock and wasn't reflected on our website when you made your purchase Sunday night', at which point I will have the breakdown that I could see coming since I started this ridiculous pursuit of a turntable. :incazzato:

I just got e-mail confirmation that my table is shipping tomorrow. What does that mean to me? Nothing but hope. With that and $1.99 I can buy a cup of burnt roast coffee as Star Sucks.

Congrats on your new TT and sorry to hear about your rocky journey back to the black stuff. May your new TT start spinning soon instead of your head.
Good luck.

No doubt one option is independent of the other.

But seriously folks, I hope that version three on the vinyl experiment goes smoothly Swisheroo.

But just wait until I get my hands on it. :wink5:

I don't have time to put it together tonight. After a hard day on the golf course, I need time to unwind on the deck of my favorite local tavern. They have a nice IPA from Wisconsin on tap and, coupled with an Oliva Serie E madura figurado, I should be all set.

Tomorrow night will be the debut, and I'll let everyone know how it goes. I'm sure you'll all be holding your breath in anticipation. Someone alert the media. This is gonna be huge.
