Hello,

I'm new to the forums here and wanted to see what kind of recommendations I could get on a good 6.1 audio setup for my home theater that I'm in the process of putting together. I've decided to move my main viewing area from my family room down to a room in the basement designed just for viewing movies, with the occasional use of sat. TV and the PC My video system will be comprised of a BenQ PE8700 projector and 92" screen. I'll also be upgrading my DVD player to something with progressive scan as well.

My main question here is what would be recommended for a an A/V receiver and 6.1 speaker setup. I'm looking to spend around $3500-$4000 for the entire setup, with about $1000 of that alloted to the receiver itself.

For what it's worth, the room is approximately 17X20 feet in dimension, with the viewing distance being about 9 feet back from the screen and front speakers.

Any input on this would be great, so please feel free to contact me via email if necessary for further explanation.

As I said, those are just three of the endless possibilities for you to consider. Whatever you decide to buy, take $100 and get a calibration dvd (such as Video Essentials) and SPL meter (such as the analog one from Radio Shack). Enjoy!

I just acquired my setup two weeks ago and it is very impressive. I spent a little less than you are planning to spend but maybe you can buy new seating, add a bigger sub, or HD satellite.

I bought everything from the local Tweeter.

DVD Changer- Yamaha DVDC-740 $249 (msrp $299)(Progressive Scan)
Mains- Boston Acoustics VR-965 $589/pair-open box (msrp $1000) Built in powered subs
Center- Boston Acoustics VRC $339 (msrp $399)
Surrounds/Rears- Boston Acoustics CR-65 $170 (msrp $199) 2 pair in 6.1/7.1 setup

MSRP Total $2995
Actual Total $2332
