So we hit my best bud Bob's for his wife's 50th birthday celebration but were informed that we should NOT bring any gifts, so we obeyed. We had to be there by 5:15, a very early party, even for us geezers, and we head to the basement for some forgettable tunes, only because I forgot what was playing, along with some libations and party favors

Then we head upstairs and he tells us to get some beer and wine for the road and told us to come outside, where upon we spotted a 30' stretch limo awaiting us. The party of 8 piled in with big smiles on our faces, wondering what was next. Well, we headed to the PA Turnpike and the birthday girl popped in that great concert DVD, Stop Making Sense, while we consumed mass quantities of beer and wine. That DVD is still among my all time faves and it had me dancing in my seat. Great stuff.

We finally exited the Pike after about a 90 minute drive and pulled up to a restaurant called P.F. Chang's, which I'm sure many of you are familiar with since they're a fairly large chain of, dare I say, 'upscale Chinese'? Anyway, we had a pretty nice meal, along with some tasty drinks (2 vodka martinis for me), then back into the limo and headed back to their place.

Next she popped in The Beatles Love cd, the one used as a soundtrack to Cirque de Soleil's Las Vegas show of the same name, and it was a group sing-along the entire time. All the songs are familiar Beatles fare, but mostly with different arrangements, albeit it slightly different from the originals. I've only listened to this one a couple times, so I was fine with it.

Back at their place listened to a ton of music, with each person picking a song from among his thousands of cds, and going around the room in turn, something Bob always likes to do at his soirées. I chose something from Lloyd Cole's "Don't Get Weird on Me Babe', and another from The Blasters, but there was so much yakking and drinking going on that it's hard to remember all the tunes that were played. All I know is, we had a laugh riot and I got fairly ripped.

How was your weekend?

Swish - we also had the first birthday party for Granddaughter Nora on Sunday. Totally awesome

Happy Birthday to Princess Nora!

Its a long weekend here in the great white north and its been a quiet one. Not much music to speak of since all of my CDs are in storage and I don't have a way to hook up my iPod to my home stereo system.

Our house is up for sale and we had to get out for a couple hours on Saturday for two people to come and see it. So we wandered over to Golf Town where Hubby picked up a new set of clubs that were last years model being cleared out for half price, and I drooled over a set of Callaway X20 irons that I'm hoping will go on sale in the Fall when I'll be in a better position to buy them.

On Sunday we had to be out of the house again in the morning so we went to the driving range so that Hubby could test out the new clubs. Then we came home and spent the better part of the day watching episodes of The Office that we had recorded and not had time to watch.

Today he was up early to go golfing with some friends, but I chose to pass on the 7:12am tee off on a 6 degrees Celsius morning and stayed in bed. No-one's coming to see our house today (so far) and I've been enjoying the opportunity to stay around the house and relax.

Back to work tomorrow. Boooo.

I spent half the weekend sick (and I very rarely get sick). Thanks for asking

Oh well, this'll make me feel better.

You drove 90 minutes to a restaurant, then came back home???

All the rest sounds like fun, altho I'll bet it would have been awful w/out the booze. :hand:

I went w/ my friend Dennis up into the hills, where it was a little cooler than my town (high 90s), and did a couple rides on the mountain bike. Here are some (ok, a lot) pics.

In Dennis' never-ending quest to ride all of the available fireroads in CA, I bring you pics from Sat/Sun rides in the areas off Hwy 108.

Sat's ride was mostly fireroad, ending with the Pinecrest downhill that will be extremely fun, now that we've cleared all the deadfall off the trail. Here's Dennis, me and local denizen Seth, who endured both days of 85% fireroads/10% roads/5% singletrack with us. He also fared well on Beer/Whiskey Drinking 1A, which seals the deal, and like it or not, we'll ride with him again.

I don't think I've ever pushed my bike up as steep a hill as this one you see Bruuce pushing up here. And the reward at the top? Mosquitoes.

More pushing. Yes, it was hot.

Ok, it wasn't all hot fireroad climbs and dusty fireroad descents. Here, Dennis weaves thru the trees on a search for more fireroads.

On Sunday, George Dat Rog and Bruuce joined us, for more fireroad climbing and dusty descents. George, with his new 'stache, is a ringer for Freddie Mercury. :p

At the end of this ride, of course, is the dam at Lyons Lake. Note the fin of the giant freshwater shark in the lower left corner.

Bruuce rides pretty good for an old guy.

The first snow we saw. Not much is left on the rides we did. We made snowballs out of what little was left.

I was so sick of the stuff I brought to eat, I tried combining several different ingredients. But jerky, chocolate Gu and bread do not make a tasty sandwich, I don't care where you're from.

We rode next to a flume for a while, but Dennis was the only one man enough to ride on top of it :skep:

http://img37.picoodle.com/img/img37/4/5/19/f_Ridingflumem_00b04a2.jpg (http://www.picoodle.com/view.php?img=/4/5/19/f_Ridingflumem_00b04a2.jpg&srv=img37)

Here's where Seth almost loses his bike and his footing in the river. That current was deceptively strong.

http://img37.picoodle.com/img/img37/4/5/19/f_Sethwading9m_27b7d6a.jpg (http://www.picoodle.com/view.php?img=/4/5/19/f_Sethwading9m_27b7d6a.jpg&srv=img37)

And Connor, Seth's dog, sat still long enough for us to put almost anything on him, except he drew the line at Dennis' lacy bra.

http://img37.picoodle.com/img/img37/4/5/19/f_Dogang2m_548055a.jpg (http://www.picoodle.com/view.php?img=/4/5/19/f_Dogang2m_548055a.jpg&srv=img37)

Seth, up & over a log. It was too big for us to drag away, so we built up both sides & rode over.

And last but not least- I saw this in the store and almost bought it for the name alone. Seth said "it's not bad, actually," so that sealed the deal. *belllllch*

The End.

How was your weekend?

Not as cool as yours. I worked all weekend to finish up my last project before starting my new job today instead of on the 24th as originally planned. That said, lest you think I'm too *****y, I'm about the most grateful joker you've never seen. I doubled my money and cut my hours by a third. Life just got better :yesnod:

OTOH, I was informed that Charity Golf Outings are compulsory so it looks like I'll be joining Autumn in club shopping. That is so not good for my image...

Congrats on the Nora celebration as well. You got her messin' with the belts and changing cartridges yet?

You want to know the ironic thing? When I was in a job where taking clients golfing was mandatory and I actually had a golfing budget, I freakin' hated golf. I mean HATED it! Then, a year and a half ago, I got a new job where I don't deal with clients anymore and I don't have to golf (also way more money and fewer hours :biggrin5: ) and I was happier than a pig in shyte. But last summer something clicked and now I love golf and would love the excuse to get out of the office and play. It figures!

Hey Finchy, what's a fire road?

Hey Finchy, what's a fire road?

It's just an access road; sometimes used by firefighters, sometimes by loggers, sometimes by dumbass mountain bikers. :incazzato:

...despite my story about the limo ride and dinner and all. She was funny as all get out and took in all the admiration from the family members and a few others who attended. Our daughter and son-in-law made a DVD of her first year, starting with pictures of him cutting the umbilical cord in the hospital, and a ton of pictures at various stages throughout her first year, with the song Daughter by Loudon Wainwright III as the theme song. Only the 3 of them appeared in the pictures, which was kind of neat, and they were followed by some camcorder snippets of her laughing and making noises, another with her crawling to the bathtub, stuff like that, and all great. They make a ton of copies for everyone at the party. I'll be watching that one again...over and over I'm sure.

...any worse. :p

So you never golfed before? Oh man, I hope you warn the others who are forced to play with you. I would invest in some mid-priced irons, and decent set of woods and putter, then get to a local course and take a few lessons from the club pro. Seriously. Learning how to hit the ball is a revelation. You may laugh, but after mauling 100 or so shots in a row, and then finally getting one right...it's just nirvana dude.

As for my vinyl mess, see my new thread, or you probably already have. Mess indeed.

Swish - golf if for idiots. Like me.

Sorry about your turntable. It sucks that you have to listen to all those quality compact discs with high resolution and no pops.
