DishNetwork has removed World Cinema from its Voom HD lineup. What a bummer. One of the very best channels they had. The World Cinema channel showed movies from around the world.

eventually they will phase them all out, probably.
They bought them out to get the subscribers, and if any of the channels got popular ,
well, bonus.
VOOM was waay ahead of its time, today such a network would do a lot better,
but once burnt...:1:

No surprise. Dish acquired VOOM primarily for their satellite capacity, which Dish desperately needed to stay competitive with Directv. The programming was just thrown in for good measure and is actually owned by Cablevision. But, the VOOM programming was useful for propping up Dish's HD channel count when popular channels like CNN, A&E, ESPN2, History Channel, and TNT did not yet broadcast in HD. Now that those channels have gone HD, looks like Dish wants to drop all of VOOM's programming and is getting sued by Cablevision to keep carrying those channels (see article below).

Even now, Dish has more limited satellite capacity than Directv, and as more channels (with much higher viewership) go HD, I suspect that Dish will have to drop other programs like VOOM and alternate feeds to make room.

If Dish do not reinstate Voom, I will offer a prediction. They will lose a huge number of subscribers, including me. Voom was by no small margin the best HD programming available on the major satellite networks.
