What is a good bang for buck mic to record some unskilled kids making music? I want to do a decent job of it. Used is preferred,in the $30-75 range. I have some small cassette recorders. Would these be adequate for a decent mic? Tanks

Using a cassette recorder depends on what you intend to do. If it's just to listen and critique it's probably fine but I have to wonder why buy a high end mic. If it's to make a demo at some point you might want to look into a digital audio tape or maybe just an inexpensive CD recorder and use rewritable blanks.
Shure and Electro Voice make excellent mics. I wish I could remember a model, Radio Shack makes some good mics, one I purchased for a church apllication did a good job and good build quality. I know this probably isn't much help. If you are going to use just 2 mics you probably want to buy Omni-directional. It will pick up sound from all around it's location. Unidirectional picks up mostly what's right in front of it and blocks out from the side.

I have a cd recorder, and will look for 1 of those 3 brands.
