If Andrew Bird and Luke Doucet got in a fist fight, who do you think would win?
Nah, I'm just kidding.
I'm listening to Bird's The Swimming Hour and marvelling how much this album reminds me of Luke Doucet's music. Right down to the female vocals, ripping guitar and use of vocal effects.
A couple of times during this listen, I've had to check my iPod to make sure that I haven't unintentionally shuffled some Luke Doucet into the mix.
If you like The Swimming Hour and you're not familiar with Luke Doucet, you really should check out his CD Broken and other Rogue States and Outlaws. His newest, Blood's Too Rich, isn't as good as his previous disks IMO. Although it does include a great cover of The Cure's, The Lovecats.
This post wasn't really intended to be an endorsement of either artist's music (although I'm a big fan of both) as much as it was intended just to voice an observation.
