Anyway, the only man who coulda ever played Moses dies today at the age of 84.

Politics aside, I liked the guy, although I don't think I'd call him a great character actor ala George C. Scott or Rod Steiger. But a few of his roles are classics.

I always loved his films. I couldn't think sand or sandals without thinking of Charlton Heston. He had gravitas, presence and when he spoke, irregardless of the role, you FELT what he had to say. My favorite rememberance of the man is a photo of him standing in the shadow of the Lincoln Memorial at Kings March on Washington. Yes, Charlton Heston was THERE (as was my father). Despite Michael Moore's hatchett job, I've always had an intense respect for the actor and the man.

This guy was before my time, but I can say with full honesty that his films and performances made a big impression on me when I was just a kid - something I don't think most classic films can do until your tastes develop some refinement. Not many flicks from the 50's and 60's that aren't animated catch the attention of 10-12 year old kids these days.
That's a testatment to the presence he had. Loved him in Wayne's World 2!!!

I remember watching the Omega Man when I was a kid and thinking, hey... that's Moses.

then there was...."soilent green is people"

and... landing that tore up 747 with that cute little flight attendent at his side.

A great man and important supporter of the 2nd Amendment..... rare in today's sea of pussified holleyweird hypocrites who feel only their body guards have the right to bear arms.

Brian Kieth was a riot in this one, and stole every scene. Heston played his lead role with the usual gusto, but was well out of his element. ...the time I almost met Charlton Heston.

My college choir was singing at a Christmas pageant at Disneyland and Mr. Heston was scheduled to provide the narration. At the last moment he bowed out, and Dean (The Love Bug) Jones took his place. Although Mr. Jones did a more than adequate job, there was universal disappointment among the choir members. We had been primed to hear the sonorous tones of Moses Himself. The "meet and greet" with Mr. Jones (he was very gracious) afterward was sparsely attended. We had all been expecting to bathe in the presence of a living legend, and Herbie's owner just couldn't compare.

They just don't make 'em like that anymore.

Coincidently some one sent me an email with a speech Heston gave in 1999 to the Harvard law students. It was on the Cultural War. He talked about political correctness and it's negative impact, about how people are being told what to think, amongst other things, I thought it was pretty good.
