I have a sony Bravia XBR 5 52" set, a digital cable PVR box, ps3 and plan on adding an amp some time in the future.

The monster products are rated in joules. Do I want the surge protector with the highest joule rating?

Instead of considering a surge protection power strip, you may want to consider what the other trains of thought are on this topic. When it comes to audio and video reproduction, you actually want to have the least amout of components inside your power bar which can impede and interefere with the flow of a/c power to your amps, tv's, cd players, etc. You want nothing in the power path, no filters, etc. The PSAudio Juice Bar II is a great a/c power extender strip (psaudio.com). It's a solid copper bus bar system.

This is just one way to look at this. If you must have surge protection, PSAudio sells another extender called a Duet Power Center with 4 A/C plugs, just enough for your list or components above. This is power strip similar to the Juice Bar II but also includes surge protection. It costs more but you get more. Check them out.

I use the cyberpower 1030ht with EMI/RF filters separating each socket with 6000j protection. It used to sell for over $100 and can be found for around $65. It has 10 outlets.
