He's still prone to jamming though. Not sure if I'm crazy about his post-Pavement output yet.

And the other day I heard a song on the cable from a band called Calexico, which took me to the used CD store. I didn't remember the song I heard on the cable, but I found a used copy of their Hot Rail album. Kinda experimental southwestern style music. I wonder if their newer stuff sounds like this?

Do you ever read the posts at this forum? Lots of the regulars 'round here like both of those plenty. Hell, you probably have several of their songs on old comps lying around.

Being that actions speak louder than words here's (http://www.mediafire.com/?yjdzzdxm0cd) my favorite Malkmus song, and yes, it's quite jammy. And here's (http://www.mediafire.com/?jmazipyuzjz) my favorite Calexico song, taken from one of the best sounding bootleg concerts you'll ever hear (recorded with the band's permission).

Haven't heard the new Malkmus yet having passed by it several times at the local. It just hasn't reached out and grabbed me.

I like Calexico and, in fact, that whole alt-country scene but sometimes i too have a low threshold the hippy-trippy jam band influence. Three albums that deliver the goods and manage to get alot of playtime around these parts are Calexico's "Garden Ruin", Califone's "Roots and Crowns" and Iron & Wine's "The Shepherd's Dog". Might be a bit of ginger to cleanse the prog pallet...

I like Calexico's Feast of Wire quite a bit. Hot Rail has some good moments too. But I'm predisposed to swing to the whole texmex thing.

A bit too mellow for me but still pretty interesting. I wish they'd get more skronky.
