Scene Stealers.

I think very movie less or more got one. A character (even in small role) that steal every scene he/she is in, or steal the whole movie. Make the movie more memorable.

Friday: Chris Tucker as Smokey. He smoke dope so much that even drug dealers are after him.

There are some folks who do steal a movie:

1. Morris Day - "Purple Rain" - When all was said and done I'd rather have heard Morris Day and the Time than Prince and the Revolution.

2. Don Cheedle as "Mouse" in "Devil in a Blue Dress" - Cheedle stole every scene with his understated presence and power in this movie. Underated mystery movie.

3. Richard Widmark as "Tony Udo" in "Kiss of Death" - When he's on the screen no one remembers Victor Mature at all.

4. Javier Barden as "Anton Chigurth" in "No Country for Old Men" - I've never felt someone COMMAND such presence on the screen in my life. He wasn't just a "villain", but a force of nature. Part Hannibal Lector and Frankenstein Monster all rolled up in one. In the end I wanted the camera to just keep following him.

5. Daniel Day Lewis as "Bill the Butcher" in "Gangs of New York" - Much like Chigurth above Lewis is "larger than life". Nothing stands in his way, none can stand against him.

6. Dennis Hopper as Frank Booth in "Blue Velvet" - I guess you can see a pattern here.

Those are all that I can come up with off the top of my head.

Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes in all those goofy Kevin Smith movies.

Cuba Gooding Jr. - Pearl Harbor - the only good thing about that abomination.

Some actors seem to be natural in stealing the show. The actors you mentioned such as Hooper, Oldman and Christopher Walken definitely fall into that category. Although Kevin Smith and Brad Pitt get some time to get use to.

And Worf, definitely agree about Morris Day. He could have been another Prince with nicer hair :D

Another hallmark of a scene stealer is that it is never too long before people take notice of them an they move on to bigger an better things.

With all the attention she got for Enchanted, it is easy to forget that Amy Adams has been stealing scenes for years. After I saw Catch Me if You Can, I looked her up on IMDB right away. "I just got my braces off!"

Val Kilmer as Doc Holiday in the Kurt Russel version of Wyatt Earp or whatever it was called..

The bar scene where he faces off with Ringo using a tin cup is a classic.

Forgot all about Val Kilmer as Doc Holiday. He definitely was a scene stealer. Kilmer probably would have been more successful in playing a villain rather than the lead character in Batman movies.

And a definite nod to Chris Tucker in fifth element, although must admit that haven’t seen too many Amy Adams movies. May be the DVD Catch Me if You Can would be a good start as haven’t seen that movie either :D
