View Full Version : Is there a 12-step program for CD addicts?

I just placed an order with Amazon. In the last 9 days I have purchased 15 CDs! ...and some of them are double disks.

I'm still waiting for another two that are on order with my indie guy.

Right after placing the Amazon order I realized that I forgot to include a couple of things, so there will likely be another order forthcoming.

I'm running out of storage space and money!

I think I need help. :nonod:

Can't help with the money but if you need a place to store your CDs....:ihih:

Step away from the mouse. Put down the credit card and step away from the mouse!

To fight my addiction, I add CD's to the Amazon wish list and then force myself to wait a month. If I still want it after a month then in theory I'm in a better state of mind to determine whether the price is worth it. Not a perfect solution, but is there ever a perfect solution for addicts?

I had sworn off buying new stuff for the time being. Meant it, too.

Next thing I know, I'm killing time at Best Buy while my wife shops for a new computer doo-dad...and there's Feist, Band of Horses and the Cold War Kids, each for $7.99 American.

How the fark do I say no to that? I'm only human!

It's no wonder your still living in that tiny little house. If you stop buying CDs, you could afford a down payment.

Cold War Kids

This was bad. Was it Rolling Stone that called them Band Of the Year? :17:

Sheesh.

But I don't think your ready for it. Just say no for now. Tell yourself that you won't buy any CD's TODAY.

Not sure. My brother was way into them, so I checked them out at Lollapalooza...and I kinda liked 'em. The guy's voice gets a little annoying in the upper register, but the songs hold my interest (sort of). Still deciding. But clearly, they don't suck for me as much as they do for you!

I get a little flack from my wife about my ever increasing CD collection (though I think I buy far fewer CDs than most of you). I also hear it about yet another speaker project taking up space. I always point out to my wife that she more than makes up for the money I spend on CDs every time she goes to someone's candle party, or basket party, or jewelry party, or whatever reason some women gather together to drink margaritas and spend money in front of each other.

Some men are no different. I know a guy who spends a fortune on green fees for golf. He goes every weekend, rain or shine, and in the summer, he'll go three or four times a week. There are guys who collect things that do nothing but sit on a shelf, and they'll pay a fortune for that. And then there are guys and their pick-up trucks. I know a guy who gets different wheels for his truck every year. I know guys who excessorize their trucks to the point of over-kill, then trade them in for new trucks, bigger trucks, and use them to commute! I had one guy make a comment when he heard I'd omce bought something like 12 CDs in one month, and this dude drives a Ford F-250 back and forth to his job, nearly an hour round trip - of course he thought my CD collection excessive. I reminded him that his hobby was more expensive...driving a truck bigger than any normal person needed just for the sake of driving a big truck - talk about phallic compensation. Me and that dude don't see eye-to-eye about many things - he works for a highway constructon company and was pissed at me a year or so ago when he found out I voted against a .20 cent per gallon state tax on gas for future highway projects. (Imagine being angry at people in an economically depressed state cuz they won't pay more money at the pump so you can make $25 an hour)

And we're not even touching upon the proliferation of reservation casinos, bars that have entire walls dedicated to pull-tabs, and all the other things non-music buyers blow their money on. I think there are a lot of worse things to spend money on. It would be different if you never listened to them (you do listen to them, don't you?).

The Clutch disk is okay. I'm not loving it so far. But to be fair...I've only spun it twice. I'll get back to it. I've picked up so many other disks recently that I like more than Clutch that's its not exactly at the top of my play list right now. That's one of the downsides of buy too much too fast. Not enough time to spend with each of them.

A disk that I picked up on the same day as Clutch that I'm really digging is by a band called Spiritual Beggars. The CD is Ad Astra and it's a hard rocking, ass kicking, fast rolling gem.

Everyone has their vices. I get a little flack from my wife about my ever increasing CD collection (though I think I buy far fewer CDs than most of you).....

I'm a lucky girl in that my husband understands my addiction. He only gets upset at the stacks of CDs that I leave lying around the house because I'm too lazy to refile them. But that's more about the clutter I create than the number of disks that I buy.

Being my vice is how I rationalize the spending. I don't smoke. I don't drink (much). I don't spend a lot on clothes (shoes aren't really clothes, are they?).

I just wonder, if it came down to CDs or groceries, what would I do....

I don't have a problem buying CDs or food, as both my ever expanding music collection and waistline suggests.

Cool...watcha workin' on?

FA - you only have a problem if it's interfering with your work or home life. If you're beating your husband because you need to listen to a new, not yet arrived in the mail CD, or you're missing work, then yeah, that could be a problem.

I believe you purchased Blast Tyrant correct? give it some time, it will grow on you.

Give their latest one a spin too, "From Beale Street to Oblivion" and the one in between which was "Robot Hive/Exodus"

go computer-based
that will fix your storage problem
money is still an issue
