The American actor Roy Scheider, best known as the hero in the blockbuster Jaws, has died of cancer at aged 75.
He was best known for his role in Steven Spielberg's 1975 film Jaws, about a killer shark terrorising holidaymakers at Martha's Vineyard. It is hailed as the film that launched the Hollywood blockbuster era and was the first movie to earn $100m at the box office.
IMO one his under rated movie is The SORCERER, directed by William Friedkin (The Exorcist). The story is about four criminals on the run in South America, given a risky but lucrative opportunity to escape their self-imposed exiles by driving a pair of trucks through a grueling 200-mile jungle region, carrying dangerously unstable nitroglycerin in order to put out an oil fire.
RIP.
