Shouldn't be too many prog songs, I would think.

On a lark, I sorted my iTunes library by song length and counted no fewer than 18 GOOD songs that are exactly 3:16. The best? Very, very hard to say. "Sweet Jane" by the Velvet Underground and "Jonathon Fisk" by Spoon would probably beat the rest of them...but narrowly.

Up to Me- Jethro Tull 3:16

Good thinking... From a field of 53 candidates, today's choice is

Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town by Pearl Jam (Vs.)

I have to admit, the first thing I thought of when I read the original post was "Wot Gorilla?" by Genesis. It's about the proggiest prog that ever progged down prog lane...but it just missed the time requirement (clocking in at 3:20).

Your Mind Is Unsound (3:16) by Gelatinous Citizen off the Rhythm Of Industry disc, which is in fact not spinning right now...

Very smart. I have 19 to choose from but there's no contest that the best of the best is Ziggy Stardust by David Bowie. Honourable mention to She Goes On by Crowded House.

I have 25 to choose from, and if I had to go prog, it would be King Crimson - Dig Me off of Three of a Perfect Pair. My favorite of all the 3:16s I have is Alvin Lee & Mylon LeFevre - Rockin' Till The Sun Goes Down. I wish Alvin and Mylon had stuck together longer than they did.

Great idea btw. We could do a month of these.

I Found that Essence Rare - Gang of Four, I too used the Mr. Midfi method and with only 8 contenders, the choice was pretty easy. Other contenders...Holland,1945 - Neutral Milk Hotel and Night Versus Day - The Sound.

I smell a comp coming on...

Oh, and FA is right. Ziggy deserves a very, very honorable mention.

Nope. I'm still wondering why you singled out 3 minutes and 16 seconds. :confused5:

The Animals - "We Gotta Get Out of This Place"

or

De La Soul - "The Magic Number"

or

The Clash - "Police On My Back"

Edit: Or anything Mark said.

Totally randumb.

I tried to pick a few songs out of my CDs this morning, and none of the song lengths printed on the jackets match up to lengths when the CD is put in the player. :nonod: I don't have one of them fancy Ipe Odds, neither.

That leaves me out, I guess. Carry on!

Troy...You have 20 interesting tunes there. I have 18 interesting ones on mine. And yet somehow, there is only one song of overlap between the two.

I wonder if you can name it in 3 tries.

from a pool of 27 undoubtedly worthy candidates, i'm torn between the following two:
Gloria Gaynor: I will survive. Sure its not an AMAZING piece of music. But it rules.
Django Rinehardt: Minor Swing. absolutely wonderful in every way except in terms of sound quality.

It's either the Tull or Marley because everyone has those albums, right? Porcupine Tree?

Did I win?

Ding ding ding...winner, winner, chicken dinner! It was the Marley. Cuz yeah...everyone's got Legend. Everyone.

I had that Tull on vinyl a long time ago and never re-acquired it (probably a serious oversight). And for whatever reason, I've never had Stupid Dream (throw that on the oversight pile too, I guess).
