Gents,
I need to raise my 2 front loudspeakers up for about 6 inches, vertically. (don't ask me why). The dimension of the speaker's flat form is 14" x 15". They need to be sturdy and nice looking, so if anyone has brought or seen them from anywhere, any links, please share. Thanks

The sturdiest stands I've seen are from SoundAnchor. These things will support a Hummer. Wooch uses these and they are very well regarded for their quality and are considered "audiophile" grade...whatever that is. Pricey, but you get what you pay for.

If you don't need welded steel, you might also consider Skylan Stands. Noel is a fantastic guy to work with and will build the stands to your exact specifications. These are mass loading stands and include innovations such as ceramic contacts points, larger bases for stability, and a rear-set top plate to better center the weight. Knowing that almost every dynamic speaker is front heavy (that's where the magnets are), Noel moved the top plate back for a better center of gravity. Smart. Excellent workmanship and less expensive than the SA's...at least they were. With the USD worth as much as a peso, I have no idea what they cost in CDN.

The super-cheapo DIY route would be to get some 16"x16" marble tiles and stack them under your speakers. I've also seen cinder blocks and bricks used. Drape a nice table cloth over them and people will never know.

Hope this helps.

Do you have links or pics of those that did this DIY?

Not readily, sorry. Sometime, somewhere, I remember seeing midsize monitors (like AN's) placed on cinderblocks with a red velvet cloth draped over the base. It was fairly elegant actually.

As for the tiles, this is an old DIY tweak. Some audiophiles put their speakers on marble or granite tiles and believe it firms up the bass by decoupling the speaker/stand from the floor. I always thought that's what spikes were for, but whatever floats your boat is fine by me :).

Thanks TopSpeed,
Well, I have a 3/8" tinted glass and a pice of 3.5" fiber glass that laying around unused, I had them all cut to size and up for the project. I wasn't sure how it's gonna hold up so I didn't put sand in the middle but it's very heavy, sturdy, and most importantly, the speakers respond exactly as I predicted before I raise them up.
Its Dim. is:
Base: 15" x 13.5"
Top: 13" x 12"
Height: 6.5"

Here's a great speaker stand. It is an industry standard, and most can be found for a very modest price.

Nice Job gjpham! It could be the pics, but it looks like you also gave them a slight tilt. Glad to hear you were able to improve the sound of your rig. Tweaks are wonderful, eh?

I guess because of the pics, they are just horizontally flat. There were reasons that I did not want to have them tilted back. First because they were tall enough that the back seats now can benefit a little more of details/ high notes. Second, the glasses were pretty slippery, and I was already had a hard time sanding the fiber glass flat even with the glass (to make maximum contact). Making them all slended at certain angle and flat to the glass at the same time was almost imposible by me.
Anyways, my second projects, the curtains and lighting, are just half finish. I've been trying to program the Lutron wireless remote (Home Depot) to my Medius TX-1000 but it's been awhile since I last played with its solfware......
When I listen to my music (Norah Jones, Dire Straits) I usually have my light dimmed very low. Just now, I made the wife came in and listened the music with me, she was like "wow, sounds like someone performing right behind the curtains". I told my wife that with a curtains on up now, I'm no longer staring at the black TV in the darkness any more. "what if someone walks out from behind the curtains", she replied.
