The SL-P1300 was made in 1988-89 and cost a whopping $1800 in the day. Check it out here ...

Thanks Feanor,
Any reason I would choose this over a new CD cheap CD player? Do you think I got ripped off if I bought it for $200 bucks?

I have two vintage technics turntables from the same timeframe and both work flawlessly.
Technics was panasonics "hi-end" arm, and some of the stuff was quite good, with Pannys reliability, but they never could get street cred.
I HAD A technics CD from the mid eighties or so, about 400 bucks, and wasnt impressed with it at all, sold it to brother and got a yamaha, liked it a lot better.
But at a 1800 price point they finally got the DACS right.
If it works I'd go for it

It depends what you want. If the "pro" features would be useful to you, then it might be worth it. OTOH, if you want simple functionality and good sound, you'll be better off with current player.
I have a Technics SL-P70 from 1990. At the time it was a big improvement over the first generation CDP I owned, but the sound is not as good as the $200 multi-disk Technics I bought in the early 2000's. DAC technology has advanced. Of course, I presume the SL-P1300 has a digital out option in which case you can connect it to an external DAC, you'd really need the pro features to justify this approach.

For $200, that thing is justified because it is sweet lookin'. Regardless of what anyone says "looks" are half of what vintage (Gosh, is 18 years vintage?) is all about. Technics and Pioneer made cassette changers that hold six or seven cassettes. Those things routinely go for $200+ on ebay. Do you think that is because they sound good or because they look cool?
Bill is right about the external DAC. You can have your cake and eat it too. Even if it doesn't have digital outs you can always stick a tube buffer in the chain. http://search.ebay.com/tube-buffer_W0QQfnuZ1QQfsooZ1QQfsopZ3QQxpufuZx

I love the vintage look. I still use my 1990, (semi-vintage), Technics SL-PS70 occassionally -- with an external DAC
