Hello guys,
I've seen very favorable review on this receiver, is it any good? It has all the features in the world and Yamaha publicize it as high current, great volume control, etc. 5 star on every site.. is it worth then?

No one here care to help me? I must understand too why the integrated amp AX-497 cost more than the receiver. It's just for those 15W more or there are other differences?

I've auditioned today some Yamahas and a Teac amplifier. I think they aren't very good, the Yamahas hav plenty details but are a bit harsh on treble and they seems a bit bright. The integrated was more balanced than the receiver, cleaner and has a flatter tone.
The Teac was worse, muddier.

Better buy RX-797 (top-art design). I'll get it soon.

I just bought a high-end model Yamaha RX 797 and had to return to dealer. It sounds so bad (lay-back) as if the sound is behind the wall. I suggest you take Rotel RX 1052 and this sounds much better.

Heavy Nine, what will its main use be? 2ch audio or HT use. I prefer Onkyo but it all depends upon your speakers and your listening tastes. If you can swing it, get the Onkyo 605. Other receivers to consider are the Yamaha Rx-661, Denon AVR688. You should be able to find most of these for under $400 except for maybe the Onkyo
