You guys were so open and honest about what movies make you cry. I'm very impressed with you all. Now that we've seen a little of your sensitive side, let's see some more.

Not all chick flicks are bad. Some are actually very good. So, what are some of the best movies that you've seen that have been dubbed "chick flicks"?

Titanic....

It was almost bearable. Almost. Doesn't get any better than that.

My fave chick flick:

1. "Moonstruck" - Funny, quirky, spot on for anyone who's lived in NY City.

2. "Legends of the Fall" - There's enough murder and mayhem involved to keep the average guy interested.

3. "Terms of Endearment" - Nicholson to the rescue as he keeps men from hangin' themselved during this thing. "Inches from a clean get away!"

4. "The Upside of Anger" - Costner does Nicholson like turn and saves us testosteronies from this snoozer.

5. "Titanic" - Big honking ship goes down with gunfire and perfidy abounding.

I think that pretty much any Hugh Grant movie counts.

Did you see this one and did it get your chick-o-meter into the red zone?

Fried Green Tomatoes because it has subtle shades of lesbianism and some not so subtle shades of cannibalism.

Thelma and Louise is such a good movie that I've never considered it a chick flick.

Hugh does nothing for me. I tend to avoid anything that he's in. I only saw What A Boy because a couple of people told me that it was a good movie despite Hugh Grant. I enjoyed it.

There are a lot of chick flicks that I like. But I guess that's expected since I'm a chick and all. ;) Some of my favourites that come to mind are...

Legally Blond (NOT Legally Blond 2, that one sucked)
Girl Interupted
Where the Heart Is (also one that always makes me cry)
Fried Green Tomatoes
Mean Girls
Heathers
Gas, Food, Lodging
Mermaids
It Could Happen to You

I second that motion, THELMA AND LOUISE is clearly not a 'chick-flick', in fact in many regards it's almost an anti-chick flick.

I didn't know that Legends of the Fall was a chick flick. So be it.

FA, I thought that Heathers had some great moments. Upon entering an empty office I have been known to scrawl the word "Eskimo" on random forms at the top of the pile just to cause confusion.

I enjoy Hugh on occasion but I think it's more for character interaction than romance as I'm a sucker for a good comedy of manners."The Forsyte Saga", "Home, Jeeves", or "Wuthering Heights", not a chick flick in the bunch.

Okay, I admit it. I liked Coyote Ugly.

How about Charlie's Angels on Superbit DVD :D

The dance-tease bit Cameron Diaz did in the club scene almost melt my TV.

I wouldn't put HEATHERS or LEGENDS OF THE FALL into the chick-flick category either, mainly because HEATHERS is a pure straight-up black comedy that is more satirical and LEGENDS OF THE FALL is directed by Edward Zwick, who certainly doesn't make 'chick' movies, usually he makes good guy movies that happen to have a love-interested/romantic storyline that appeals to women, a la THE LAST SAMURAI. I like the film for it's cinematography, which is superb and John Toll is a master behind the lens. Otherwise I thought it was pretty poor narratively.

I'd put the following on my list in no particular order;

Fried Green Tomatoes
When Harry Met Sally]
Sleepless in Seattle
Always

A quick Titanic story.......

Years ago on Tony Kornheiser's radio show he had a poll for which one of the Oscar nominated films was the best. A guy calls in and says Titanic hands down. In fact he says its the best film ever made and he has not even seen it. TK asks why would he say it is the best film ever if the guy never even saw it. The guy replies that his wife went with a friend to see the movie and when his wife got home they "made hot monkey love for 3 hours"! So in his book that makes Titanic the best film ever.........

So I guess it just goes to show you guys that letting your wife pick the movie sometimes might payoff........ :)

Peru, I bet you and me could go 12 rounds on Zwick. His movies are simply awful. Excessive everything. Heavy handed, obvious and wallowing in gratuitous violence and cheesy extended (ie: endless) close ups of stars emoting.

Do you remember the Kevin Bacon comedy about Hollywood called The Big Picture? The movie starts with the screening of 3 student films in a competition, one of which is Bacon's. The winner is a war film made by a pretentious fat guy. That short film reminds me of Zwick's movies. People love them, but people love a lot of junk masquerading as deep and important.

Ok, I admit, Glory was pretty good and I liked the way the Meg Ryan Iraq war film Courage Under Fire played out from all the different perspectives, but in general, his movies are just pretty, tacky crap.

Failure to Launch
How to Loss A Guy In 10 Days

I call alot of these romantic comedys, but chick flick fits also.
