My wife is planning a trip back to the Philippines. She wants to have a cell phone that will work their as well as here. Here is the phone and service she is looking at. Does anyone know of a better phone and plan that won't break the bank?

phone: http://www.myworldphone.com/k1.html
Service: http://www.myworldphone.com/prepaidsim.html

Thanks for everyone's help in advance.

Is it necessary for it to work here and there? I don't know a bunch about international cell service, but if I remeber the US uses a totally different signal/setup.

Why not just have her buy a prepaid phone and minutes after arrival? Send her with a AT&T prepaid phone card, and then use it to call home on the cell phone. Just a thought.

Then when she returns, just either keep the phone or ditch it. Its prepaid, and no worries. I think that may be more cost effective.

But I guess it matters how long she is going to be gone. 1 week, a month, or longer.

The shorter the trip, the less bells and whistles you need on the phone.

Here, check this out. I googled "cell phone service philippines", and there are a number of resources. I didn't even know about this, but you can apparently "rent" a phone also:

Heres another site based in country:

G, is she really taking a trip or is this an excuse to get yet another phone. No one's life can truly be considered complete without that fifth telecommunication device.
