I find that every recording has a perfect volume setting where it just sounds right.:6:
Off either side and the sound is not as good.:nonod:
Anyone else adjusts the volume for each record or silver disc?

Peace

definately!

I also notice that how later I listen to music, the quieter I play it...

at this moment, Kenny Burrell's 'Midnight Blue' is spinning (silver shiny disc) and the Mac's meters are around the 0.04 watts mark, hitting 0.8 watts on peaks, sometimes 1 watt on really big peaks...
this, I find is a perfect volume for this album, and I can even imagine that if I played this again around midnight, it'd be even slightly quieter...

I hardly listen really loud, exept when the recording really likes being played loud, like Pink Floyd's Dark side of the moon, which is really cool when you play it loud :)

Keep them spinning,
Bert.

Yes. I have found that a volume setting of "0" significantly improves the listening experience when playing Britney Spears.

....of course is the optimum setting for Mrs.S.

Absolutely, and there seems to be no science behind what that level is...just another opportunity to mess around with stuff.

Absolutely. But my mood seems to change what that volume is in most cases. Some days -30db is perfect. Other days -20db is what makes me smile.

As far as the 0 volume? That is way too loud for me. Pictures start falling off the walls at that setting. Please don't tell me that you guys like BS that much.

I find some music bland if played too softly.

I've mentioned this before but in different words, that I think there is an optimal listening level for each recording. But there are other factors also.
First off I tend to listen louder than the average person, that's because I'm a conditioned listener. The average person would say "that's too loud, turn it down!" So for them that's not the optimal volume because it's overloading there senses. The optimal volume then is at the threshold of not overloading your brain or your ears. When overloaded you can't soak in all the nuances. At the optimal volume you can listen right into the music an absorb all the instruments and nuances at the same time.
Secondly, I like to have the music so that it interacting with the room, bouncing off the walls so to speak.
Third, from a chart that I seen but misplaced most instruments emit their natural tone or characteristics at approx. 92 db. However this may not be critical in regardes to playback of a recording, dunno.
Fourth, I think that my speakers open up and sound better when given juice.
and Fifth, I have the luxury of being able to play at loud levels without anyone complaining.
