Interesting story, about a guy named Jake Holmes. Never heard of him until yesterday when they played a very unique version of Dazed & Confused on the radio. Apparently this guy Jake Holmes wrote & recorded the song before Led Zep. The Yardbirds used to play Dazed & Confused live then later Page recorded it with Led Zep. Jake Holmes never received credit or compensation. He just wrote a letter to LZ asking them to credit him, but apparently never got a reply to his letter.
Other stuff Holmes did later on in his career was to write jingles for commercials, he did one for the US army "be all you can be" as well as the Dr. Pepper jingle. I read some good reviews about the album which Dazed & Confused appears on "The Above Ground Sound Of Jake Holmes" so I ordered it (used import).
Maybe this isn't new news to everyone, but I Thought it was interesting.
