amp. for kappa 9.2i .please.

i have the kappas 9.2i and i drivet hem with bryston 7b-st (2 x mono) and they can't driva the bass. the pre is ML. No28 and doesn't have corections. please advise me with amplifires that can drive the kapass bass!:confused5:

you might be able to try a bi amped setup, where you let a seperate amp drive the bass, so the brystons can focus on the high & mids.

what's your budget? you could try a bigger bryston, or maybe a krell, krell's are pretty bass heavy so that might be a pretty big change, also look for others like classe, Mcintosh, Parasound, ...

EDIT: I just read somewhere that the impedance of those kappas drops to about 1 ohm at some points...

that speaker just cries for bi-amping :)

Tank you. Now y have budget 4000 euro and y don't no what y buy : KRELL or MARK LEVINSON. What you say Basite? MARK LEVINSON 336, KREL KSA200S? I think PARASOUND 2200II or 3500 its not so good in the sound.

The Krell or Levinson would be good. You are right Parasound isn't in the same league. Bi-amping may work but Bryston isn't a slouch either, I'm surprised you are having trouble driving the 9's with it. It could be a speaker placement problem. Has the amp shut down, or you just want more bass? Amps like Bryston, Krell or Levinson will all have very controlled bass. If you aren't used to that type of sound you could perceive it as a lack of bass. These amps will not allow your speaker to rumble, the bass will be tight, clean and should have a hefty punch. What cables are you using?

you could always consider a used Mcintosh too. A 252 or a 402 would be great :)

If he typed correctly the Bryston 7B is a 600 watt monoblock, if he isn't getting bass, it's not the amp. Bryston is argueably as capable in the bass as Krell or Pass. Mac sure isn't going to be better.

There are two versions of the 7b, as Series and a Parallel version. The Parallel version is for speakers under 3 ohms, the Parallel version is the one the 9's need, their impedance swings very low. I'm not a Bryston expert, so I don't know if the series vs Parallel can be switched or if you are stuck with one version or the other. Some Bryston amps also have a Phase switch. I don't think this is on the 7b. If it is, that would certainly be something to flip to see what happens. Also I wonder which phase the switch changes?

I found a Stereophile review of the Bryston 7b THX version. They mentioned that to them, and driving Wilson Watt Puppies, the 7b had a ample but warm bass response. They like the mids & highs. Ironically, they compared the 7b's to a Krell ksa-250. The Krell did have better bass control or resolution but was dryer/cooler in the mids & highs. The 7b does have a switch on the back to switch from series to parallel operation. I'd strongly suggest checking that out before spending more money. Though a monoblock amp the 7b actually has 2 amp modules and 2 separate transformers, the 2 separate modules is how you can go from series to parallel. Parallel would definitely be the way to go with the 9's. So let me know if you have played with the switch before and what is it about your bass response you don't like. If you want more detail in the bass and willing to trade the different presentation of mids/highs, maybe the Krell would be worth it to you. But if you are wanting more bass, more blume or bass presence, it sounds like the 7b is your amp and you need to try to find out why it's not doing what it should. Could be the parallel setting may help, may be just speaker placement or room conditions. Hope to hear from you with an update.
