Really dumb question regarding speaker wire...

I am wiring my HT system as we speak. Does the white line on the speaker cable mean that side is the positive or negative??

With speaker wire you want to connect the same wire to either positive or negative. They can be either. Having lines or writing helps to determine which wire is which. If wire doesn't have markings then I attach a piece of tape on both ends so I hook 'em up correctly.
