I just installed a new headshell and I must now give this my highest recommendation.

http://www.lpgear.com/Merchant2/graphics/00000001/Z_Headshell.gif

You can get it here:
http://www.lpgear.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=LG&Product_Code=LPGZHEAD&Category_Code=HEADSHELLS

This is far the best thing I have done for the table bar none.
An amazing improvement the records surface noise is diminished by 50% maybe better. Attack, decay and transients are all improved.

NOTE:
for cartridges 8 grams or over will require that you install the auxiliary counterweight that came with the table at the rear of the tonearm.
if you no longer have the weight you can get one for 4.95 at

click here http://www.kabusa.com/m1200.htm scroll down to 1200 Tonearms And Accessories and on the right side you will see this

Also the overhang gauge will need a bit of modifying.
Just slide a serrated knife through the top slot and saw till there is a slot at the bottom so the headshell slides in all the way flush.
this takes a few minutes to do but necessary.

the sumiko HS-12 shell that originally came with the MMT arm. litz wires, and the fingerlift is not shown but it is separate and goes under the mounting screws on top of the shell.

i have a few and they are highly recommended.

Hey Brandon -

I haven't posted here in a looooooooooong time!

Your post cought my attention though - glad to see you're still enjoying your system and the SL-1200. I've sold every piece of gear I own sans what's below in my signature... been running this same setup for about a year. The table I kept??? The SL-1200MK2 - still loving it.

I've looked at this headshell several times and wondered - glad to hear it worked out for you - may be a valid $50 spent for me!

Man, I just remember how you used to get drilled by others with your KAB and what a troll you are. Crazy stuff and I think most of them are gone by now. Sticvk around here, mate.

I'm pretty jelous of others with removable headshells. One of my friends has a ****ty cast iron-like Technics and it sounds incredibly good in his modest system. Having the luxury of swapping carts in less than 5 secs is a great way to enjoy and play with music.Maybe I'll get another TT instead....

Has anyone here ever tried Ebony wood headshell made by Yamamoto? THat looks pretty sweet....

Hey Slate good to hear from you.
Yep this was by far the best budget tweak I have done so far.
I am surprised that KAB does not offer them because they out preform the factory headshell by a long shot.
The details and the space between notes are clean and unfeathered and most importantly the vinyl surface noise is practically nonexistent.
This headshell married up with my new OC9/MLII perfectly. (see this thread)

I still geeking over it.

Hey BrandonH,

Do you know SL-12XXs tonearm mass with Zupreme Headshell?
I cannot find any info on this anywhere.

I can tell you that I'm enjoying my Shelter much more than my previous PJ 8.6C arm.

Anyone?

hello Jrhymeammo

I don't know the formula to figure mass

http://www.panasonic.com/consumer_electronics/technics_dj/prod_specs_sl1210m5g.asp
The Technics effective mass with out cart is 12g
The factory head shell weight is 7.5g
the zupreme head shell weighs 12g
maybe someone here knows how to figure mass I have had it explained to me before but I would not venture to try to explain the formula.
