Looking to buy an either/or player or possibly a universal player for DVD Audio or SACD. My thought is this, the signal is sent through on 5 separate analog lines correct? There is no signal via the Optical or Coaxial connection. Do all receivers with the 5.1 analog connection perform? Is analog the right word for this? I just want a little clarification to make sure I will reap all the benefits. Thanks!

Yes, with SACD and DVD-A formats, the player outputs the signal output through the analog outs. This is because of copy protection restrictions built into those formats. You need a receiver with the six-channel analog input, and most receivers made in the last couple of years will have that input on board.
With DD, DTS, and other digital formats, you have the option of using the digital audio connection to the receiver. Typically, it's a good idea to use your receiver's processors because they generally have better bass management and setup utilities than the universal players do.
