Here’s something for you if you fancy something a bit different a cracking 2nd album by a British band called Field Music – Tones of Town which is a real grower. It’s not a rock album, but guitars feature heavily, but with keys and strings it comes across as refined indie pop. It’s got that quirky tempo change sound reminiscent of XTC meets the Beach Boys with the more modern sounds of The Flaming Lips, Spoon and Pavement. Although they are a British East Coast band they definitely have that West Coast sound.
Good recording too with a nice open layered sound with lots of good stuff going on in the mix. A definite top 10 for me for the year, I can see me playing this a lot through what’s left of the Summer.
