On the latest Time Warner (comcast) HD boxes, can you change the resolution between 1080i and 720p? One of my plasmas does better at 1080i and the other apparently does better at 720p......I would like to check out both settings and decide. Thanks!

Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300HD...

Yes, I can pick different resolutions (1080i and 720p)...but then I can also pick picture mode (pass through, fixed, upconvert 1, upconvert 2) and the manual does not go into detail about these...any ideas? Also, if I select 1080i and 720p as available resolutions, can I switch between them while watching a show or will it be shown in the resolution it is being broadcast.....any finally, is one supposed to be better than the other? I seem to lean towards 1080i, but I thought 720p was supposed to be better....

Check this link out for the pass thru setting

I think fixed would always be 16:9 (stretches the 4:3 signal to 16:9).

Not much on up convert 1 or 2 tho.

I am using component out on my HD box right now but find the 1080i setting to give a slightly better pic.

Hope this helps.

I believe 1080i does a little better and I leave it in Fixed Mode. I do this for the Pro Elite 1120HD. The reason I asked was because the unit I am putting in a 2nd room (Pana 77U) apparently does a little better at 720p than 1080i, but I will try both settings on it as well and let you know what I think....thanks!
