<img src=http://www.mcarecords.com/Images/BrandingArtist/leonanaess_3.jpg align=left border=0 hspace=5>I didn't really know who she was until seeing her last night close out the Letterman show, and she was completely mesmerizing and totally adorable. I was just switching through the channels and fortuned upon her while she was still early in the song. Just a guy backing her on piano. What a cool voice. It's got some of the qualities of the big name crooners now like Snorah Jones and Sarah MacLachlan, but she's so playful with it. Very refreshing. Immediately reminded me a little of Karin Bergquist from Over The Rhine - same type of gorgeous voice. But Leona, at least in this performance, has a voice that is vulnerable, yet powerful and sensual at the same time. Really nice and organic. Kind of like Tori Amos without the irritating parts. Edie Brickell is the comparison that AMG latches on to and it's a good one. Apparently she recently put out her third, self-titled album to quite a lot of critical acclaim and according to AMG that's the one to get so onto the wishlist it goes. Anyone have it?

Guess not, eh? Hehehe, well I guess she is kinda mainstream for all you jaded indie dawgs around here, buuuuuuttt......I was pretty impressed. And since both Best Buy and Circuit City have her latest CD online for under $10 postpaid, I might just go ahead and take a chance. Not bad for a well known artist on a major label.

BTW, I know I speak for a lot of people here when I say that what many of the wimpy ass music sites label thread crapping and go to extremes regulating against, we wholeheartedly encourage here. So don't hesitate to offer your opinion if you think what you saw on Letterman sucked or if you think the album sucks or if you think that all modern pop stars are manufactured suckers and not worthy of even this (as of yet) non-discussion. Anarchy is the rule!

Interesting. She was just mentioned to me yesterday by one of the guys I'm working with (who is also a big music fan), and I'd never heard of her. She's playing here (Washington DC) tomorrow night I believe. If I remember correctly, she's opening for Fountains of Wayne. He really wants to see her, but it looks like we won't have time.
