Though I'm sure some of you preferred the thrashier <i>White Blood Cells</i>, I like Jack White's writing and arranging style. His lyrics are very introspective and insightful, which is somewhat a surprise, since the White Stripes are suposed to be a punk revival band. And the music on this album seems to lean more towards 'mainstream' hard rock, IMO. Not that thats a bad thing either. I like that it sounds a little more fleshed out as opposed to the sparseness of their earlier stuff. Of course, I always piss-off Metallica fans when I say I like the way the <i>'black album'</i> sounds too.

Did anyone see them at the Grammy Awards? Pretty good performance if you ask me.

"Elephant" was in my top 3 favorites of 2003, and it still spins routinely in my CD Player (when it spins which isn't often these days). I'm going back now and investigating the White Stripes catalog to see if anything hits me like this one did. It's interesting ... I owned "White Blood Cells" but didn't complete one rotation and sold it on half.com right after it's release. I'm going to revisit this one.
