I've been on the search for a decent (and cheap) turntable and came across a Kenwood KD-4100R at Goodwill. It's built like a tank, had a heavy platter and sounds awesome.

Well, for a couple days it sounded awesome. It's got an electronic control system...just push the button to correctly cue and start playing. After 2 days, the control system died. Grrrr. I was able to find a service manual on-line and get a schematic. It's a fairly complex circuit for digital (CMOS) logic and it going to take some patience to troubleshoot.

On the other hand, I know the photosensors are working properly, so designing a new micro-processor-based control system would be a piece of cake. I can't think of any additional features to add, except perhaps a feature to turn on the turntable drive motor without swinging in the tonearm to allow cleaning the record before playing.

Does anybody have any experience with this turntable? Reliable? Performance?
