a friend has asked me to help them get an all in one surround system to add to their sony kp57v75 4:3 1999 RPTV it has a set of component inputs but not HD ready-
would component inputs be any better than svhs on this tv
took me 3 days to get re logged on here!

yes components will give you better color resolution and picture quality and hdtv is not necessary to benefit from this

If the T.V support component then use it, A set does not have to be HD-ready to get the most out of it. Only a progressive DVD player needs a a set with 480P settings (All HD-ready set have this) to get the most out of the progressive setup. I think it is funny that you see a lot of units being sold (Progessive) and when people get them home then don't see any difference, cuz the they don't have a set that support 480P and component hookup. Older RPTV may only have composite and S-video and that is a nice picture in its self (S-video). If more of the buying public would do a little research on what they have and what they are buying you would see more basic models still being sold. But as with most of the buying public (keeping up with the Jones's) they want to say I have that too.
